Help needed to choose internet security software

Hi at the moment I am using the McAfee software that came on the sky broadband CD but I have heard that its not the best to use. So if anybody can recommend me the best one to use, which should include antivirus and firewall. At the moment I am undecided between AVG and Kasperovsky (sp) .

      Thanks

      You could try:

NOD32 trial for 30 days Antivirus Software - Eliminate Spyware and Adware with NOD32 Antivirus from ESET

      AVG Antivirus

Zone Alarm is a reasonable free firewall

worth noting AVG will no longer be free from jan, and it does seem to find viruses it cannot heal, and you cannot delete, so good freeware but would not pay for it

Just a slight correction here, AVG will be free from January but you have to install a different version I believe.

I personally use AVG - an excellent problem that everyone in my family has. It has daily updates (sometimes a couple a day), and has never let me down.

Zone Alarm for the firewall as well.

Right I went for zonealarm and has turned out to be a big mistake! I got a PC and laptop which i connect to both in wireless mode. I decided to use the PC has a test to check out zonealarm, so i uninstalled the mcafee software and installed zonealarm security suite. Straightaway I had problems opening a port for utorrent despite reading about 5 guides and doing everything it said and whnever i used utorrent it came up with the red circle..."firewall/router is limiting traffic....open a port".

So i went onto my laptop and was able to use utorrent just fine using the same port number 56881. So I don't why utorrent couldn't recognize the port being open via zonealarm. So in the end uninstalled zonealarm, did a clean uninstall has shown on their forums and switched over to mcafee again. But having the same problem with utorrent with mcafee firewall, the dreaded red circle even though I know it is open as i can use it on my laptop. Both pc and laptop have got Ip,s assigned to them so that doesn't change.

Has zonealarm left a mark in the system somehow? Or has it changes something that I don't know about?

Help will be very appreciated thank you.

As far as I know on ZA to allow it you double click on the red cross to change it to a green tick, maybe the same for McAfee?

I use Kerio, and its the same, double click on the icon to allow etc.

      Thanks for the quick response

I didn't need to do that when I originally installed mcafee I just went to the firewall settings and "exposed" port 56881 for incoming connections, which was fine before and worked good. It's happened since installing zonealarm. Always getting error message when testing the port also but will see if that double click trick works.

btw I have gone back to mcafee and red cross i meant the one in the bottom of utorrent..
