      New Connection - Speed issues

I have been connected since 5th Dec and was a little dissapointed with the 1.8meg speed especially as my Brother inlaw round the corner is getting 3.7meg and I'm closer to the exchange!

I asked Sky to confirm I was not capped at 2mb and they replied with :

'Thank your prompt reply with your account details, however after checking your account you are on the ADSL LLU option 2 which is capable of speeds up to 4Mb. The distance that you are from the exchange which is 3.5Km and the quality of the line to your home will determine the speed at which you can receive. '

Fair enough about the line but if i'm paying for the Max package up to 16mb thats what I should be on.

regardless of my crap line ??

PS. today the 416k upload has finally gone upto 768k perhaps they fixed it

They might have mistakenly placed you onto Mid, Have you contacted them to confirm which option you are on!

      3.5Km

That might be STRAIGHT LINE distance, The BT wiring doesnt always take the fastest route to your house!

      speed issues

No going by the DSLZONE I'm only 2.5km from the exchange so they are probably right.

It was Sky who told me I'm on LLU option 2 Max 4MB so I guess there are more options than they let on.

Mid I beleive is 8mb max ?? So they must have more options.

Just checked my Brother inlaws connection round the corner he has Line Atten of 57db and Noise Margin of 7.1 and getting 4.7mb. Mine are 61db and Noise margin 8.3db and getting 1.8mb ??

      Few things!
      • Confirm with Sky that you are on Max!
      • Find out the FULL Distance from the BT exchange as the ones sites predict are usually STRAIGHT LINE!
      • You may have a higher attenuation as the line may go from one road (Your InLaws) and then around a few other back to yours!
Our Moderator Saturday, Maybe able to advise you more on the Attenuation & Noise Margin stuff! Hes pretty clued up on that

      Line Attenuation

      Cheers Fiberoptic,

Another thing I remembered was some time ago I had a problems with my phone line and BT put a 5db lift on my line attenuation is this the same Attenuation?

As it seems with ADSL2 its better to have a lower one?
