      Migration advice needed

Hi all, I'm new to this forum. My question is, if I get a MAC code from my current provider (newnet) how long do sky take to get you on line? I've been told that the MAC code is notice of cancellation and you are disconnected after 30 days whatever happens. I am not on a LLU exchange so would be looking at a connect package? Cheers all, Ian

roughly about 10 to 20 days from phoning them if newnet needs 30 days notice they may still charge you another month but don't take that as 100% gospel

      hi

think sky's turnaround for connect is 17 days [seen it on aforum somewhere ][if it takes longer u can inform ur isp [who can keep ur mac open [or issue a new one ]however u may need to pay for another month ,if u let the mac run out most isp's assume u want to stay with them so charge u another month if u have a decease [ie if u dont use ur mac witrhin 30 days then ur adsl may be removed from your line and u have to go through the process to get sky to get bt to reinstate ur adsl part of line [which can take 2-3 weeks ]

      Welcome to the site elevonic

A MAC is not a notice of cancellation its a method that ISP's can use to move you from one IPStream ISP to another without any down time (with luck it will be for LLU providers as well) and a MAC is valid for 30 days from day of issue.

AS has been said the lead time can be anything from 10 Days +

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

Thanks for all the replies. I got my previous MAC from Pipex, they said it would last 30 days then I'd be cut off if I didnt get connected with a new isp, thats my concern if sky are slow. Cheers
