      BT line (Distance from exchange)

Hi folks, just migrated from NTL to BT (talk about out of the frying pan into the fire) signed up for the Max broadband deal with Sky but after a weeks wait to get thru to tier three support, they tell me Iíve got the best download speed Iím going to get 288 kbps (upstream 768kbps). Sky support says my telephone is three kilometres from the exchange and as Iím getting a broadband connection (288kbps) BT will not do any thing about the line. Has anybody else been down this route?
      Regards Glyn.

      Hi

Have you tried the test socket?

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/index.php?page=mastersocket

I am over 3km from the exchange and can get 6.4mb (not on Sky tho) maybe worth a try.

As you can see from my sig, i'm further than that from the exchange in cumbernauld, but i get about 800-1300 (depending on time of day) as my downstream speed.

PS, on connect here still, not sure what'll happen when (if) they finally move me to Max...
I don't care if the glass is half full or half empty, i just want to know who's been drinking my pint!!!

Spot on NewsreadeR, I plugged the router into the test connection and the download speed went straight up to 4096 kbps, put the cover back on the terminal, plugged in, still good but when I connected the Sky TV box back up (with micro filter) my download speed went back down too 288 kbps. Sky are now sending out an engineer to check out my TV box
      Many thanks Glyn

It could be a ring wire causing the issues.

When you took the cover off the master socket, to the left did you notice if there was 2 or 3 wires connected?

Glad it worked though. If everyone could use the master socket, I am positive a lot of problems would go away - however not all.

It could be the ring wire, how confident are you?
