      Settling down Period??

OK I am quite a newbie to all this so please forgive me
If anyone has read my other thread then they know what has been happening to me since I connected to sky broadband.
Amyway I have just had a call from sky about my slow speed problem. Basically he said that due to my line length (which could be anything from 4.5-6.7km) I have no chance of getting speeds of higher than 512-1024kbps.
My line was in a Settling down period after connection which could take upto 2 weeks after that my line should stay stable.
I told him that I had looked at my stats from the sky router and my Line Attenuation was 63.5 downstream so I should be able to get more than this. He then said that these statistics dont mean anything at all it is all to do with the line length.

I did ask if there was any point in buyibg a faceplate (NTE-2005 Master face plate) to try and improve my line noise and he said they are of no use at all except to make the socket a bit more tidy!
From reading all the info on this forum I know that the noise margin is also very important. through out the day mine goes from 6.8-7.1 which I believe is quite stable.

Is there such a thing as a "settling down period" and there is a chance my line will improve over the next few weeks or am I stuck with 512k.

      I hope this makes sence
      Thanks for any help
      Paul

I wouldn't take too much notice of them monkeys at Sky! They told me that I cant get on there portal because the server is down and nobody else can get on and they dont know when its going to be fixed. Then I hear on here some people can get on to the server, I'm just one of the unlucky ones that cant, Stikes me they will tell you anything to get rid of you.
As for settling down period, this is modern day electronics here! it should be able to establish a stable connect in seconds at the most minutes!!
I mean its like picking your car up from the garage and its running a bit rough and the mechanic says "Dont worry mate its only settling down, give to 2 or 3 weeks and it will be fine!!! " Yeah Rght!

If it was a Connect connection, it can take up to 14 days or so to stabilise, so therefore that is the wrong assumption.

Granted the OP is not on Connect and so does not apply.

Reminds me of a mate of mine who used to think he was a bit of a clown and was a TV engineer. He used to carry an old cow bell in his tool box, when he went to the old biddys he would ring it in the back of the tele and tell them he was tuning the transistors, so he would be soon time and would have time for a cuppa! lol
