      activation 01/12/2006

I got my Netgear router on Monday and my activation date is the 01/12/2006. The letter says I need to wait an additional 3 working days for the work to be complete. Will I get a steady green internet light on the 01/12/2006 or do I have to wait.

Also I will be using a telephone extension lead from the BT socket and then plugging the Microfilter into that, is this ok? Will it still work?

I am extremely worried that I won't be able to get the Broadband working.

      Any advice would be appreciated.

Plug the filter directly into the phone socket , the extension cable plugs into the filter.

      good luck with the connection...

if you do have trouble the people on here are only to happy to help , and always give good advice.

      @levineg

As Dave said plug the filter directly into the phone socket but in all honesty you shouldn't use an extension lead they do tend to cause problems.

You could also find your connection working a day or so earlier as a few members have said this of late.

Yep if you do have any problems there are plenty of members on here willing to offer advice.

Good luck when it all happens.

      Er....one slight problem.....
IF you plug a filter into the master socket, then the extension which,in order to connect to the BBand router, has to go thru another filter due to the differnce in the plugs & sockets, you'll lose your DSL signal as they'll cancel each other out.
My advice, dont use a extension.Plug the BBand box into the master socket & get a Sky Netgear wireless dongle (20 from Sky)
If you buy a wireless card/dongle from another supplier besides Sky,it's not covered by Sky's technical support so if something goes wrong, you'll have to go to the maker of the card, not Sky.Where as if you getit from Sky,it's supported by us.

As Spike says - you must only ever plug the router into the router socket of a microfilter which is then connected to the phone socket (master socket or via an extension).

I'm sure he must see far too many support calls arising from the use of extensions but to be fair, a properly set up extension with quality components shouldn't give too many problems.

However, far easier than trying to fit an extension would be to use an extra long RJ11 cable to replace the one that comes with the router to bridge the gap between the master socket and the router.

This might sound daft but actually you can run a RJ11 at up to 25m with no problem and your connection will be little different from plugging in with the regular cable into the master socket. If you do this then secure the cable to walls etc. with wire clips.

You can get a 25m RJ11 for about 7 delivered next day. Cheaper (and better) than going wireless.

I use an extension cable for Broadband and I have a consistent 7mb connection. Also plugging the router in made no difference to speed. Also as said my filter is at the end of the extension not in the wall.
