      Slow exchange ?

Hi all, I have finally got connected to sky since signing up to there broadband over 2 months ago.(it has been hell).I wonder if somebody on this site is on the same exchange as me as I have been told by sky that this exchange can only handle up to 4.6MB.I was only getting just over 4mb downloads this I why I called sky. My exchange is Rainham,Essex.I have checked my cables and plugged my router directly into the test socket behind the faceplate.I am also using the faceplate this site suggested to buy. Whatever I do the speed did not increase. Since being told by sky about my exchange I used the TCP this site also suggest and my speed has increased to 6MB. So if my exchange can only handle 4.6 how comes after using TCP I now get 6MB.Is sky just giving me more cr*p.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
      Simon
