Sky Broadband will not supply an outgoing SMTP mail server, however, you
will still be able to access an alternative mail client through Outlook or

How can you access an alternative mail client through outlook without an SMTP server?

This is terrible and I'm sure will create a large number of disgruntled customers who would expect this as a basic part of the service - I did anyway. A SMTP server is fairly a basic thing to set up and for the life of me I can't see why they aren't providing one.

Their promotional blurb is therefore very misleading as it states "Handy sky.com email addresses for you and your family also accessible via the internet, and a simple tool to transfer your online address book". The 'also' means to me that there is another way to access your email as well as web access.

I'm very partial to my MS Outlook and under no cicumstances am I going to ditch it for a web based system.

Don't worry about it. Sign up for google mail (free) and use their SMTP server. It will probably be more reliable than and ISP run server anyway.

In fact if I didn't run my own email domain I'd use gmail's POP server for incoming mail as well, then you don't need to change email address when you switch ISP.

If anyone wants a gmail invite, send me a PM with their email address.

I would tend to agree I haven't use an ISP mail server for years.
If anyone wants a gmail invite, send me a PM with their email address.
I can also supply anyone with an account just PM me the same thing.

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

No you send all your email through your gmail account but if you have other accounts you have mail sent to then you just need to make sure the return address points to those accounts in your email client.

      thanks for the info.

Thats not ideal, i really hope sky do setup their own smtp server because it is one of the things preventing me from signing up with them
