    SMTP mail server

    This is a discussion on SMTP mail server within the Sky Broadband help forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; @charltonfan Why not just get 3 gmail accounts they will be take anywhere accounts then since they are not ISP ...

      Why not just get 3 gmail accounts they will be take anywhere accounts then since they are not ISP reliant. I can give 3 if you want NP.

      Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

      You could always run your own SMTP server on your PC. There are free ones about on the net.

      RE gmail. If you use their servers do they attach an advert to your outgoing emails?

      Thanks for the offer. Im quite happy with having thunderbird pick up my 3 soon to be 2 accounts, its just easier for me that way.

      See the above, i did ask the advisor when i called on wednesday night, although based on this information then i will be calling them again tonight to see what the situation is as!

      I used run my own and did for years, as for gmail I dont ever recall seeing anything added by them.

      well it's not ideal this I guess, but for Mac users like myself at least there's the '.mac' account to use as hopefully reliable alternative.

      Just wish SKY had been clearer in their marketing of this....appreciate that the MAX package only costs a tenner, but some clearer indication may have helped.

      so does this mean that you can set up email without using their webmail option?

      I would say it will allow you to download the email to your PC but from whats been said so far on here you cannot send the same way
