Very slow speeds over the last couple of days - Why??

My router normally syncs between 1300 - 1500 I know that seems slow to most people but to me its fantastic - (I live quite away from my exchange), I've been with Sky for the last 2 months and have been having great downloads speeds of between 140 - 150kbps.

On Saturday I had to reboot my router because it lost connection, I re-started it and it will only sync at 820 kbps (downstream connection speed) & 608 kbps (upstream connection speed)

I re-booted the router now a number of times and tonight my router show's the following:-

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 896 kbps 608 kbps
Line Attenuation 62 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 4 db 7 db

I'm really getting fustrated now - What can I do do get my router to sync at the speeds I was originally getting??

      Thanks in advance

Real sorry ady I don't know what to suggest but looking at your stats your Noise Margin is a little on the low side has anything changed with regards to your phone line in the house since Saturday ?

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

Actually at 4db your noise margin is below the operating level for this router. If it drops below about 6.2db then you should reboot and continue to do this until it doesn't drop any more. Then leave your router powered up and connected to the phone socket to "lock" it to this noise margin.

Your attenuation does show you live quite some way from the exchange so you will never get high speeds with the current technology.

What package are you on? If you are on one of the Sky LLU products you may benefit from asking Sky to move you to ADSL rather than ADSL2+ as this might give you a bit more stability (and maybe speed).

I've no idea why your connection quality has dropped recently. Maybe the weather? Could be that your line has suffered some water ingress somewhere between you and the exchange.

I'd start with a call to Sky technical and try to get through to Tier 3. See what they can suggest/do.

If you don't want to do this just yet then take a look at the Cabling and faceplate forum for info on improving your connection filtering. Also you may find some of the info here helpful:
