      Bearshare Issues Using Connect Package

      Hi guys

I am a new member and found your forum very helpful. Good job you were here otherwise I would have jumped off a cliff with all the problems I have had with Sky BB and still having problems. But thats another post.

My question really is about using the program Bearshare with my Connect package. I did read somewhere someone mentioning that the connect package does not allow P2P programs to work at full speed, but no explanation why this happens. I have found that I too cannot download properly. I used to be with wanadoo / orange and had no problems, but moved 100 miles north and straight away joined Sky, so I have no idea if its just a bad connection or not.

If it is the connect package, could you explain why download speeds are extremely slow and jumpy? Is there anything I can do to improve it? And will this still happen when I finally switch over to the Max acount?

Apologies if you have covered this before, but searched for a while and couldnt find proper info.

Here are my router stats if they are any use.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4960 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 40.0 db 26.5 db
Noise Margin 5.7 db 23.0 db

Alot if not all Connect users face slow speeds with P2P! It seems that there is some sort of P2p Management on this Pack which limits your speed!

Traffic management (allegedly) is only present on Connect apparently (for now).

They probably placed this Traffic Managment on Connect because they have to probably pay BT for the bandwidth and they want to keep it on the minimum???

Ok thanks to all who replied. The main thing is that when the main service starts (whenever that is. Was promised it would start a month ago) I will be able to use the bearshare program properly.

Although it is apparant that there is shaping on the Connect packages, something does not add up.

The degree of slowness from members reporting, is too severe from examples given by other parties.

If you are using P2P etc, it is imperative that the correct ports etc are opened on the router to allow the traffic to be routed.

Yeah I had a feeling it might have been that, but all the ports are open so this should not be happening.

I also notice that when using the bearshare program, accessing the normal web pages takes forever. The bearshare isnt even downloading at anymore than 150kbps. So I thought I would go into the router menu and noticed the router menu pages also took alot longer than normal to open. Felt like the router was using nearly all its power for something else.

I am not an expert like you guys, but I do have some knowledge. But it is certainly struggling to run the program normally using SkyBB Connect.
