      Signed Up!

Isn't this bad forum etiquette to start a new thread about just "signing up" ?.. well, if it is ok with you - then I will tell you my story.

Was on 1mbit Pipex (had been for the past 3 years) - Got my MAC code within 48 hours and phoned / joined SkyBB. Friendly Scottish Adviser said that my line (Huddersfield Exchange) was only capable of only 3mbps - which was disappointing, but he said that BT would be upgrading the exchange in due course (I had always thought it was MY fault that my line was so weak (IE My House to the Exchange) but the adviser said that it was the actual Exchange at fault - so Iím glad there ..

Went with the £10 a month MAX as I don't want to be capped and as the FUP all seems reasonable thought it would be for the best .. and anyway it is better than paying £23 for Pipex 1mbit.

Will be interesting to take a look into the router and see how it is locked down, Iím quite into tinkering with firmware ..

      *waits with anticipation*

      RS200

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

nope because this is a new venture that Sky is undertaking then every sign up story will obviously be different and so not to cause confusion with everyone posting in the same thread we thought it would be clearer for everyone if they could all tell there own signing up story separately

      also welcome to the forums

      Hi rs200

I am playing the waiting game now too, it is good to have somewhere to see how it is going for others in the same boat.

Registered for Sky Broadband on the day of launch but all I get is emails from Sky saying that the the service is available in my area (London W1) but (for some unexplained reason) I have to wait.

Samknows shows that my exchange is Easynet enabled so I can't understand why Sky is dragging it's feet. I'm on the top tier with Sky HD and I'm keen to stop paying Pipex £24 a month for a 1mb service and having the embarrassment of having 'The Hoff' as my ISP's public face!

Is it better to ring Sky to order the service?

      HI Contraste,

unfortunately you cannot just ring and place an order. Sky will not accept an order without a BAND reference code. Sky are sending these to customers via email. It is their method of staggering the orders, and preventing overwhelming demand leading to issues in terms of service and network stability.

No one has as yet figured out the rhyme or reason behind the allocation system, I can only assume that they have chosen exchanges where the number of customers is of a suitable amount for their "guniea pig phase".

I would take it as a blessing that you will get to read others reports on this new product, before you commit to 12 months contract.

I am sorry the news is not better.

If only someone could come up with a button to ban people who are drunk. That would be handy :P
part of the reason, posted here

and also BT are apparantly dragging their heasl as well, part of the reason why Sky are doing a staggered roll-out
