      Isn't it how much the line signal degrades from the process of traveling from the exchange to you're house? For example people who have some parts of their line in aluminium will have a higher attenuation because the quality degrades more than on standard copper.

      Isnt that the noise margins??? Im sure the attenuation is distance? Saturdays more clued up on this kind of stuff!

      Attenuation is a measure of the loss in power of electromagnetic signals between transmission and reception points. Many factors affect attenuation but by far the largest factor is line length.

      If you compare the attenuation between say an extension and the master socket then it is possible that you will see a tiny change in attenuation as the line characteristics have changed (shorter length mainly). However, as nFuriate has demonstrated this might hit the dizzy heights of 0.5db so it isn't exactly significant.

      Maybe I should have rephrased my comment to: Attenuation you can't significantly affect

      well...i unplugged sky boxes etc and the speed went from 4.1 to 4.4 an improvement but it still sucks lol its back to 4.0 mbps again now :S
      is there anything else i can do?
