Just back to sky - but...

      Hi Folks,

I'm looking for a wee bit of advice. I was with sky and had one of the rectangular fibre routers - sr02 i think it was. Sync u/d was 19999/79999.

I switched to BT and with their home hub got 19999/79999.

Today when i've switch back to sky with the ER115 router, i'm only managing 19999/68741. I checked an hour before the switchover happened and my bt hub was sitting as it always had at 79999, and the obly change i've made is switching the router out.

Will my sync speeds increase back to where they were previously? i.e. is there any training etc to happen.

      Thanks,

      Chris

With fibre the initial connection is usually the fastest then DLM will reduce the speed if the error rate is too high.
Can you provide your line stats (attenuation & noise margin)?
Do you still have your original Sky router?

Yes, i was thinking that i'll get my old router out the loft and give it a go. My stats with the new router are:-

      Broadband Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 68741 kbps 19999 kbps
Line Attenuation 10.8 dB 9.2 dB
Noise Margin 6.4 dB 15.15 dB

Re: Just back to sky - but...

As the number of connections to a cabinet increase it is likely that the speed will decrease. With a noise margin of 6.4dB there is little scope for an increase in speed. I realise that the drop has been sudden and coincided with a change of ISP but it could be that you had a 3dB noise margin with BT. You could try your old router and see if it makes a difference but leave the router switched off for at least half an hour when changing over to prevent DLM from reducing the speed even further.

Update: at 830 tonight my connection gave out and I had to call Sky. Openreach engineer coming between 8 and 1 tomorrow to fix a fault, but the line seems fine from Sky checking it. Hopefully they can get it fixed!

Re: Just back to sky - but...

Router synced overnight to 35000/12000 and i tried a reboot and it completely dropped the connection.

Sky last night booked an Openreach engineer who turned up at 8am, did various tests and replaced the faceplate:-

      Broadband Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 79593 kbps 19999 kbps
Line Attenuation 10.9 dB 9.2 dB
Noise Margin 6.6 dB 15.15 dB

So, i'm happy! He couldn't tell me what was wrong, but all seems good now!

sorry you are at your max speed due to noise margin limit 6 downstream and upstream unless your have some noise on the line or internally swap out filter and adsl cable and check telephone line for noise on calls

      Nice deal.
Might go for that Myself, as my current one is coming to an end soon. Was also on the 11.01 deal and have that Max deal in offers.
Did they charge you the 9.95 connection fee for upgrading that it has mentioned in the T&Cs for broadband upgrades?

What does it say for you at the bt wholesale checker (using address) for the two VDSL lines?

Re: Just back to sky - but...

      Good Morning Lettice
I did this deal via Live Chat as last weekend there were problems with the website, I was not looking for Fibre Max
just looking to renew My Fibre unlimited BB & Talk package at the same price but noticed the Max was 18 mths
rather than 12 mths plus the cost was the same, the guy offered the latest SkyQ Hub ER115 incl Free Delivery although
I already have an ER110 + SkyQ Booster given by a friend So did not really need the New One ( I think they are the same)
anyway, So its still in the Box untouched. I have checked My future bills & there is No mention of 9.95 connection fee
maybe it doesn't apply if you are already on Fibre ??.............
I will check the bt site to see what it shows
I know I am on the Huawei Cab about 400 yards from My House.
I don't use sky's filters as Openreach fitted a filtered faceplate a few years ago but it might be worth fitting a new One.
But 71 Mgbs works for Me.
May I suggest You Look at the deal Now as with Sky you never know how long it will Last.............!!! Good Luck

Just a Thought.........Have a Good Weekend Now I just need West Ham to Win.......!!!!!!!
