      why so sloooow?

      Hi All,
First post here.. just got Sky Connect installed.
      Router arrived several days ago.

Not had the activation letter yet, but checking on the BT saw that my order had completed today so checked my connection tonight and it's working!

      However I'm only getting a 0.6MB connection.

Here's the other stuff I know you guys would want to see:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 21.0 db 12.0 db
Noise Margin 6.9 db 23.0 db

so from that I can "work out" in my limited knowledge that my line should be doing a max of 8mb if possible.

Therefore I would think I should be getting higher than 0.6 shouldnt i?

I was with BT in my other house and never had a problem.. was contacted by SKy when we were arranging to move house and move the sky dish etc and they got us onto their BB.....

      So what can I do?

What you'll find jamesyboy is that over the next couple of weeks you'll experience a wide range of download speeds.

This is due to your line 'learning' - with almost all new broadband connections, your connection into the BT exchange needs to settle itself down.

This happens by giving you a variety of download speeds until it finds the optimum speed.

Bear with it - it will get better. I've been on Connect for almost a month now & things have now stabilised [although I am frustrated with torrent speeds - an example is with 25 seeds, I'm only getting 6 to 8 kbps speeds for the majority of the time].

aaahh okdokey.. I'm pretty much on the doorstep of the exchange so I knew it wasn't a line length issue..
I guess I'll be back on here in a few weeks with the results!

It takes 10 days for the learning period, try not to reboot your router during this period if possible.

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

well a little over ten days have passed and my connect is rubbish to say the least...

an ADSL speed test comes back with 4MB some times, an 8MB sometimes and a 500k other times!

Most of the time regardless of the adsl speed test I get sporadic results.

The actual speed seems fine it's more the reponse time..

I.e loading a page.. a little will load... then nothing.... then everything else.

same with uploads, download you name it..

seems to die a death, then come back fast (or at least at the speed the ADSL test is showing) and then dead and on and off..etc.. all the time.

Having just changed from BT to Sky Connect it has to be their equipment as I didn't have these issues on BT
