Is Sky BB worth it or do i stick for the time being??? advice much appreciated

      Hi

I am currently with UK online and have an almost perfect connection all of the time (8mb package, 7.5 down/760 up).

I use the internet daily and my pc and BB connection is live 24/7, so any connection issues as being described by some customers will be very frustrating.

I have seen the poll and see that almost 50% of customers are happy but an almost equal number are unhappy/wish that they never signed up.

I am really unsure as what to do. I would rather pay more for a slower but reliable service than pay less for a quicker and unreliable service.

I realise that this is difficult to answer but would love to here from people who had the same reservations as me but made the leap. I am located in Newcastle under Lyme it that makes a difference to the service.

      Comments would be much appreciated.

      Isnt UKOnline linked to Easynet???

Also if you could post your current line stats then we could estimate a speed you would be able to get!

In my opinion, Sky hasnt been bad at all!

What is the relationship between easynet and sky BB?

      Local attenuation 32db
      Remote attenuation 24db
      SNR 8 to 9db

      Currently upstream = 768 downstream = 5600kbps

      Hope this helps

      thanks

UKOnline is a Part of the Easynet group.

UK Online have been able to offer services with speeds up to 22MB. This is still based on the Easynet LLU coverage however.

In December 2005 BSkyB purchased Easynet and so now also owns UK Online. Since this purchase, BSkyB have entered the Triple Play market. There was talk of UK Online possibly being phased out but they continue to increase custom and are seeing a rise in new orders. UK Online continue to exist as a separate entity from Sky Broadband.

Based on your attenuation you should be able to get 10 - 14 Mbps

      hi

i moved from plus net to sky, at first the line was a bit shaky [usually router reboot sorted it ]now its rock steady[for last 4-5 weeks ]downloading about 1meg -900kbps ove most downloads [p2p usually hovers about100-120-kbps per download item [ie 4 songs downloading total worked out at 450kbps] so i would def say go for it but expect some niggles for the first 2-3 weeks till the router settles itself [and for a tenner a month its pretty good value]

      Thanks for the replies.

Is past BB experience anything to go on e.g. Do you think that my ukonline experience may be replicated by sky then?

Might it be through the same exchange and servers?

I really want to try it but am afraid i may be one of these people who have lots of problems and then i am stuck for 12 months.

think you pay ur money take your chance ,i was with plus for the year of hell after being with aol bb which was very good [stable no downtime, good pings ]skybb is new but easynet were a great business isp and very reliable, i think most prob are with the netgear router and the type of dslam card that sky use if the survey about sky had been asked 2 months ago then unhappy punters would be 70-80%going by the complaints but now that its settled down a lot more people are happy with it

If everything goes well you could get a decent service set up in a couple of weeks with only a few hours of outage.

      BUT

If you're like me you'll end up with no internet at all for over a month and no end in sight yet.

If you rely on the internet DON'T switch.
