DLM runs continuously on your line adjusting it to the best stable speed. With changing the modem often over a short period DLM has been fooled into thinking your line was unstable. I think you understand this, but I think you may not realise that DLM will also increase your speed when it finds the line is stable.

I don't know the present position, but at one time the line could only be set to 7dbs manually, anything below that could only be done by DLM. If you give it time you will probably find your line goes back to your original speed and latency. Unfortunately, DLM although quick to reduce speed, can take some time to raise it.

      Thanks

Yes I understand it's my own doing tinkering too much on a brand new line, its an EO line so no fibre It's not the download I miss, it's the upload.

So I just have to wait?

I have installed the vigor and asus back to see if it still drops connection at 6db......also impatiently waiting on a reset lol

      Cheers.

      Re: Profile change

      Tom is spot on there.

Sky's DLM software is now a lot better than it used to be. However some of the technologies it uses benefit from having suitable software/firmware on the Modem/Router too.

G.INP is one such piece. The kit that is in the exchange communicates with the Sky router and compares notes.

The best noise margin that is now available from Sky is 3dB. This is where the line can support it. 6dB is still good. It may improve a little. Typicially you can expect the line to be improved in a few days now too.

I don't know if the Vigor Modem has all the technologies that Sky's DLM software now uses.

      Re: Profile change

      Hi

I left it for 8 days before going back to the vigor/asus combo, tbh I'm not that impressed with the vigor120, the ping doubles on it too, but I want to use my asus for the extra features, I tried it in the DMZ of the sky hubs but had NAT issues with consoles and VPN. I researched before buying it and it seemed to be the only modem that would do PPPoA for me to use the asus properly.

Anyway so I just leave it and it will go back to 3 db?

Yes, provided that it will go to 3dB.

The technologies which Sky added to their ADSL2+ product work best with the Sky routers. Most of the technically inclined people moved on to Fibre so w don't get a lot of feedback about non-Sky routers on ADSL at the moment.

      Re: Profile change

Just an update, I had a netgear router on my connection for over 8 days without drop, due to wanting to use my Asus AC68u for its added features I installed the vigor120 and asus router again yesterday, last night my connection went down at 2am ish for an hour or so, typical DLM behavior, so I have now installed my SkyQ hub and will leave it for a while to see if it recovers.
My stats on the skyQ hub are:
Connection Speed 20838 kbps 1203 kbps
Line Attenuation 15.5 dB 9.6 dB
Noise Margin 6.1 dB 8.8 dB
