      Question Switching to Sky...

      Hello there,

I've just asked my current ISP (Plusnet) for my MAC code. Currently I am on MAXDSL up to 8mb with them but i want to switch to sky max. May i ask a few questions?

I know that sky use the LLU technology but if I switch using my MAC code will there be any problem because I am atm on MAXDSL.

I currently get about 3500 kbps downstream on MAXdsl, should I be able to get the same with Sky, more? or maybe less? I checked on the sky site and it said "upto 2mb" but I currently get more than that with Plusnet....... :S or is that inaccurate.

Could someone also tell me about how long will I have no broadband between the switch?

One more question, the main reason I am moving is because of the heavily throttled P2P speeds on Plusnet, now I don't download too much but when I want to use P2P I would like as fast as speeds as possible (yeh, i know it all depends on seeds, etc) but will sky throttle p2p?

Thanks in advance, I want to just check this with people so I can try and get as smoother switch as possible and know what to expect.

iirc you wont need a MAC code - but I could be wrong

You should get the same, if not better. However you will not get traffic shaped or email deleted, same as Plusnet. Albeit, many would say the customer service is as bad as Plusnet. But not everyone is having problems

The best thing to do would be to ask Sky when you signup, they can give you a better idea.

At this precise time there are no plans on Max Base or Mid, however we are confident that this takes shape on Connect., purely for cost purposes as Sky effectively rent this from BT.

No SkyBB will ask you for a MAC when you call them don't ask Plusnet to cease your line or you will have no connection for weeks.

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

Got my MAC code and ordered sky broadband online last night, it said "Your order is being processed and you will receive your sales confirmation letters within the next few days." Wonder if I should have done it over the phone, so i could have asked some questions, ah well.
So I'm just waiting and hoping everything goes good now... Wonder how long til i'm all connected.

      Wish me luck

That speed test is surely wrong. It says 5mb/s for me and then I go through the process of ordering Sky BB (i've already ordered it) and when it gives me another speed test, it says 8-16 mb/s .

I switched from plusnet. I needed a mac code.

Sign up was painless, but first activation date didn't happen. By the time got round to 2nd go went straight through within 7 days . being generally stable since then.

in regard to plusnet, officially you don't do anything - it happens automatically.

But remember, if your part way through a payment month or whatever, as I was, when you become activated to Sky, they will refund the difference (I did politely remind them)

welcome and good luck with change over.

Rang sky, said I would be activated 23rd. I've just checked my BT landline orders online:

One is for the 23rd of Nov, for providing LLU, guess thats sky.

One is for the 28th of Nov, for ceasing BT IPstreamMAX, guess thats plusnet conection ceasing.

Won't I have to wait til 28th til sky works? because there will be 2 ISP's on my line then?

      I'm probably wrong

      Thanks
