      Sky BB advice

      Hello All

I am currently a BT BB user who tell me they can only ever give me 1MB broadband due to my line lengthi ma currently paying them 29.99 for that service

i registered an interest in sky who tell me i can have base, mid or max - does anyone know if i will get better than 1mb if i sign up - the dsl zone site tells me yes. bt have told me if i change package with them to save costs theywill only give me 512kb!

Before I moved house, my line att was 56db. I was on the Connect package as my exchange is not LLU'd as yet and I was seeing sync speeds of around 5792, giving speed tests of around 4.5 - 5meg.

As your attenuation is less than mine was i'd guess you could get about 5meg on Connect or maybe a bit more on LLU (Mid or Max)

      PS Welcome to Skyuser!

Line Attenuation is only one factor which could slow a connection down!

Noise and Line Quality is what alot of people forget!

Hi all thanks for the replies so far

heres the stats from my router at the moment i am on BT 8MB max (pre the total broadband offer)

      Data rate 1152

      Noise margin 26.6
      Output power 17.6
      Attenuation 52.0

around 1.19 kilometres from your exchange (as the crow flies).

i was hoping to sign up to the sky mid LLU package and get better speed BT tells me i can not increase with them.

Based of your attenuation the max speed you would probably see on ADSL2+ is 4.0 - 8.0 Mbps

Hi yes it is available but as i wanted more tv channels than freeview the sky deal looked better in total

4mb cable is 25.00 per month and you have to take a phone line at more cost as well

You would probably need to be put on adsl1 and then capped at around 4mb and the stats checked.

but this would not be done untill you get the service and then get some isssues.

still better than bt 1mb for 30 quid lol
