is the sky installation cd required?

      Hi.

New user here (well, on behalf of my brother that is). I just received my router today along with a letter saying I am due to be connected on the 16th Nov.

I wanted to know from people who have already setup/used Sky broadband whether it's necessary to install the software on the CD that came with the router?

I hate installing software that is not essentially required to make something work. Also, I know from previous experience that with Netgear routers you can just plug it in and configure it via 192.168.0.1 and away you go, no software required. I know the Sky router is different in that it's got some config hidden/hard-coded into it, but does it really need the software on the CD to make it work?

Also, has anyone experienced being connected prior to their due date? I just checked samknows for my brother's tel number and it already says the line is under LLU, so I'm thinking could it already be connected? Guess I'll find out tomorrow when I go over and plug it in.

As long as your router is connected via ethernet or wireless you should not need to install any of the cd!

Unless of course you want Mcafee antivirus or whatever it is.

      Try this thread

      Whats on the CD?

Thanks for that. I did a quick search before I posted, but obviously didn't do it well enough! As I thought, CD would not be required.

Moderators, close this thread down if you wish.

If you go to thread tools at the top of the post you made, you can close it by yourself, this way it marks the thread as resolved
