My Connection Stats - Any Views?

Well, I've finally received my modem and managed to get connected. I've connected my router directly into the main BT socket where it enters the property, and my reported speed is pretty much what I anticipated (according to the max speed BT said I could obtain) at about 3.5mb.

That said, most sites don't seem all that responsive, and dslzoneuk.net speed test is returning some *very* disappointing numbers - best so far .43mb!

Based on these stats from the router, can anyone see any obvious issues:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3852 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 60.5 db 38.8 db
Noise Margin 7.5 db 9.5 db

      Thanks all,

      Tom

For your attenuation figure that's a really good connection speed.

Speedtests are always prone to server load problems. Try this one:

      http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/

It tends to be more reliable than most.

With a 3852kbps connection you should be able to get somewhere around a 3200kbps download. If not post back and I'm sure you'll get good advice to help you.

Think I found the problem. I was running the speed test from a Macbook connected wirelessly. The same test run from a wired machine got MUCH better results. I suspect the Mac didn't like the default wireless channel of 6... changing to channel 1 has improved things considerably.

I think the connection is ok actually. I just need to work out what's happening with my wireless network.

If I sort it I'll post back, but thanks for the help.

      Cheers,

      Tom

keep an eye on those stats bud, the attenuation is a rather high and the noise is rather low, if it gets unstable it may need capped at 3mb but sofar so good
