      Telewest user considering Sky Max

      Hi all.

Im a telewest 10mb user at the moment, been with them for years, however due to redundancy and the impossible mission of locating a new job I need to reduce my outgoings (to feed the family)

I am thinking Sky since I have SKy TV already, I would switch over to the phones with SKy and broadband with SKy saving me around 25 a month, not much I know but it will help out alot.

      My questions are these.

      1. Telewest do not cap, adjust bandwidth etc, thus I have full throttle downloads at around 1.1mbps, and no limit to how much I can download or upload (I also host a private members FTP with around 20 members globally (though only 2 or 3 every connect at the same time)

What, if any do sky do in regards the above, whats the dif in speed and will the allow my continued FTP server

ah...Thats all my questions, oh wait, how reliable is it, with TW I have not had a down period for over a year, will sky be a bad choice.

      Thanks in advance to all.

ps. I wont say what I download, but its not porn or anything of that nature

spottedhaggis, Im still with Telewest, (phew!) and I hear talks that they have been running trials for 20mb! for a 2007 launch dunno if its true!

A few things you should bare in mind if you move!

      * Sky cannot GARUNTEE speeds it depends on all those,
      Line Stats
      Noise
      Attenuation

*FTP Seemed fine when I set mine up, Though now I can use it because of my frequent disconnections! grrr!
*P2P/Torrent Throttling, I havent noticed anything (After forwarding ports)

So to sum it up! Go for Sky and then test it out yourself because it depends on your LINE what kind of experience you get!

lol@PORN, I do HEAVY Downloading 350gb in 2weeks etc etc! Sky havent contacted US yet lol!

By the way im on MAX!

      These are my speeds!

      ADSL Link
      Connection Speed
      Downstream Upstream
      8420 kbps 766 kbps
      Line Attenuation
      35.5 db 19.6 db
      Noise Margin
      5.4 db 12.0 db

      And currently getting

      456.10 Kbps
      which is around 57.01 KB/s
      including overheads

      Ratings

      Customer Service 8/10
      Speed 6/10
      Reliability 4/10

I would call your current isp and tell them your plans they will do something on the price for you they dont want to loose customers.
I have the max package and although i can access all web pages (at last) i am still getting a slow down in service most nights, i also have to reboot the nice router thingy that they have made us use on a regular basis.
So in conclusion yes on paper its is a 10 per mth cheaper than most but the service is far from stable stay where you are with a reduction in line rental for at least 6 mths and maybe just maybe they will have sorted these issues out.
As a foot note once you join you are stuck here as it takes an eternity to cancel and reinstate another isp.
I hope this helps but for more info so that you can make an informed decision just read a few threads on this site youll be amazed on how much you can pick up from here, you will NOT get these answers from Sky.
      I haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that don't work.
