Broadband stops working at consistent times

So I've had sky broadband for a while now and sometimes it used to stop working for about 15-30 minutes at approximately 7:30pm. This would typically happen on consecutive days but other times it wouldn't happen for a few weeks.

A couple of weeks ago, I've noticed that it stops working about 5 times a day at consistent times. It seems to stop at 8:30am, 9:30am, 11am, 12:15pm and 7:30pm. Is there anything I can do about this because it does get rather annoying when it happens while I'm doing work since it effectively means I have to stop working for a bit. Any help is appreciated

I would be inclined to examine the anti malware and anti virus programs on your PC. One way to do this would be to start your PC in Safe Mode with Networking and see if the drop-outs still occur. It goes without saying that if you do this use extreme caution. Do not visit sites which are the least bit suspicious, particularly P2P sites where viruses are rampant. Also take care when opening emails.

You might also like to download and run Routerstats Lite, which will show if variations in the noise margin are causing the problem.

I am having the same issues, my broadband usually drops out at 1.30 am in the morning.

I use Avast. Could Avast be interfering with my connection?

I recall reading about avast causing connection drops on the sagem 2504n.

The cure was to turn off the home network security setting, then reboot for it to take effect.

That is the router I have. Turning off network security setting? The only preferences offered are the shields to turn off
File System Shield, Mail Shield and Web Shield.

I am wondering if it's worth uninstalling Avast totally if it causing the connection drop outs.

More info showing others with the same problem here:

The issue was reported at skyuser & on the official forum but the above thread illustrates how avast aren't interested in fixing it, not to mention being clueless about sky router firmware.

Thank you for the link. I have decided to totally uninstall avast, to see if I still get the drops out.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been trying to get the effects while having Routerstats lite open and I haven't really managed it yet. I'm fairly sure it's not to do with anti malware and anti virus programs on my PC since it happens for every device that is connected at the time. I have noticed that when it goes down and comes back, sometimes my connection is much slower (about 500Kbps vs my usual 2500Kbps) and the noise margin is a bit higher (~9dB vs 5-6dB). If the problem is due to this, what would I be able to do about it?
