      My Sky Problems

Ok. I've been connected for about three/four weeks now and have the following problems.

ones that have been with me from the start-

1 Miserable torrent download speeds- we are talking about 12 KB/s max download

2 Poor ftp download speed, maxing out at about 30 KB/s on a supposed 8 Meg line

Ones from the last week or so

1 Using uTorrent not only results in pathetic speeds it also shuts of xfire, msn and prevents me from accessing any websites

2 Often my network connection shows I'm connected but I cant access any websites etc

3 No access to any secure sites, email, banking etc

I've never bothered contacting Sky because from what I have read here they don't resolve anything and I'm not wasting hours on the phone for no benefit.

Anyone have any suggestions about what is wrong or what I can do please?

Firstly post your line stats? Also have you tried the following?

1 Miserable torrent download speeds- we are talking about 12 KB/s max download

have you tried forwarding the ports in the router?

2 Poor ftp download speed, maxing out at about 30 KB/s on a supposed 8 Meg line

Is this ftp server hosted by an ISP? if not post a link and i could try it?

Ones from the last week or so

1 Using uTorrent not only results in pathetic speeds it also shuts of xfire, msn and prevents me from accessing any websites

      see 1st response

2 Often my network connection shows I'm connected but I cant access any websites etc

have you tried "reparing" the connection?

3 No access to any secure sites, email, banking etc

Sorry its a bit of a repost, but its probably better in here than in the other thread .

I have a problem with uTorrent and had it on and off since I signed up, the speeds tend to stay <30KB/s download but quite often under 10. I can do the port forwarding test and it comes up green, and no offence I've been using the program for a long time and know how to use it.

Xfire/WLM (MSN)/IRC used to disconnect but when i limited connections to about 50 (really bad) it seems to have fixed the problem. I've tried with upnp on and off, when its off it causes a few extra problems with certain apps but that's probably because most them use randomly generated ports so I cant forward them.

FTP sometimes decides not to connect at all and the same goes for https sites. With both IE6, IE7 and FF.

If I didn't know any better I would say they run some faulty filtering/forwarding/shaping service which puts port 80 access first and assumes everything else is not worth dealing with.

      Information:
      Ip: 90.194.98.*
      Package: Connect
      Connection Speed 4384 kbps
      Line Attenuation 48.0 db
      Noise Margin 5.7 db

Note: The router seems to like noise margins in the range of 5-7 never any higher, if I dc during peak times I will connect at 3200 or such, if I connect at say 5 in the morning, i will get 4800.. ofc if i leave it connected after restarting it at peak times, I can reach mayby 19 db. Im also on a Interleaved connection.

      IP Address 192.168.0.1
      DHCP On
      IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version A2pB018e.d16f
      Modem Status Connected
      DownStream Connection Speed 8096 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps
      VPI 0
      VCI 38

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 20.0 db 11.5 db
Noise Margin 12.7 db 24.0 db

I have forwarded the ports as per the uTorrent guidance found on here.

Package is the connect package and my exchange is Pulton-Le-Fylde.

The ftp site is normally fileplanet.com but its the same whichever site I use, such as filefront etc...

Repairing the connection makes no difference.

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
