Sky bb - huge difference between router speed and speedtest - v slow

We moved into the cottage three weeks ago and told we had to have Sky connect as all that we could get here. The estimated speed was 1.1mb to 4mb. We had between 0.5 and 1.8 but that was for a day or two and then it really slowed down. The router was showing it was getting 7196 but speedtest came back at about 0.40 - 0.63mb. It really is slow. We had some crackling on the line and then more serious interference. It is still crackly. Openreach dug teh road and said they fixed the line problem but the line is still crackly. Could this be why what teh router is saying is not what we get? Sky said we get the speed the router says and that's that but we don't have anything like it. It is now showing as about 5mb on the router but even with ethernet speedtest shows 0.6mb and it takes forever to do anthing on line.

Will a crackly line slow things down ad will we really get 5mb bb?

      Thanks,

Your profile indicates that you are on Sky Broadband Connect.

You've gone over your monthly limit, which is shared out over each day to a rough limit of 1.3gb per day

If you are able to order Sky Fibre Unlimited, do. There are some deals around, but even without you would end up paying an additional 3 per month for unlimited bandwidth and hopefully a better connection speed.

Hi, I'm not sure how we could have as it's been like this since Sky turned on the BB. We haven't downloaded or streamed anything as it's too slow and even when we're at work all day it's 0.3mb-0.5mb. There's no we could have gone through 1.3gb a day or even close, as we can't use iplayer, Sky on demand, netflix etc. it's been so slow since we moved in nothing has been usable. Connect is only option where we are, no Fibre etc.

Re: Sky bb - huge difference between router speed and speedtest - v slow

In this case, the only sensible option I can suggest is to change providers.

First check out the SamKnows site to see if you have any LLU providers at your exchange.

      SamKnows - Telephone Exchange Search

Type in your post code to get the best result. The site does need to be updated as it still refers to O2/Be who are no longer supplying Broadband.

Next take a look at the two links below. The should provide information on the prospect of you getting Fibre soon:

      https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html
(Use the Address Option if you have Sky Talk)

Where and when - Superfast Fibre Broadband

Also check out your county's website and search it to see what it plans. You may wish to try a variety of search words. I tried 'bduk' and 'broadband' on the Hampshire site, but eventually found it under 'Superfast'.

Going further with Superfast Broadband Hampshire Superfast Broadband

When you know the latest about what is happening where you are you will be in a better position to chose your ISP. Please remember that any suggested dates for Fibre going live are just that. They change frequently.
