      SKY LLU upload increase

I was just looking through mysky broadband settings when I came across this :

Line connection testing completed on 12/08/2014, resulting in the following settings:

      Download speed setting
Your connection has been set to a download speed of up to 14.3Mbps .

      Upload speed setting
Your connection has been set to an upload speed of up to 2.6Mbps .

When will I see the new upload settings?

      Possibly never.

Rumours were around several months ago that sky were going to start using the annex-m variety of ADSL2+, which does have an upload of upto 2.6Mbps.

Shortly after this, people started posting DLM reports showing the same 2.6Mbps that you have.
Unfortunately the rumours died down, with the assumption being made that the idea had either been shelved, or at least put on hold indefinitely.

Thanks for the reply, I got all excited for a moment. I can't get fibre at present, supposedly under the East Sussex broadband program, I maybe able to get in 2015. Fingers crossed.

Lots of accounts I see with high download speeds are showing upstream sync speeds of 2.6Mb recently, I had thought it was a system glitch but maybe not.

Just to clarify, is that sync speeds as in router stats, or optimistic DLM reports?
I've not seen any stats showing above the normal max of 1399Kbps yet.

Either way, considering sky have had quite some time to amend these reports, it does leave me wondering if annex-m might still be on the agenda.

      Re: SKY LLU upload increase

I have seen upload sync speeds when in work above 2 Mbps, only when the download speed is at the higher end of the scale though i.e. above 15-16 Mbps.

We can see the actual speed the customer receives on the system we use and although not an every day occurrence it definitely happens.

Well that's quite big news then.

It's definitely router stats & not the 'upto' report shown in mysky?

That is beyond the realms of the standard g992.5 flavour, so are we saying that sky now uses annex-m?

      Some good info on annex-m:

Definitely the router stats, what we see are real time numbers exactly as the router will see. We can't configure the upload speed to this manually but it would seem that DLM can do it.

Nothing on our system states annex M or annex A so I can only advise on the raw stats I have seen.

      Re: SKY LLU upload increase

Just thinking about this is it possible that these figures are attainable with some old O2 depending on what kit they are connected to at the exchange.

I was helping a customer recently and when he was doing speed tests it was saying he was a be customer still so don't know if that may be a possibility.

      Re: SKY LLU upload increase

      Very interesting.
I think i read that o2 used to offer it but stopped doing so long before the sky take-over.

This all might seem quite irrelevant to fibre customers, but there are situations where even a 2Mb upload is vastly superior 1.3Mb...

I can't confirm this because i've never tried, but i do recall reading several accounts of people not being able to stream their call of duty gameplay to twitch tv due to a 1.5Mb minimum requirement.
So if you consider how popular those games are & that none of the other major isp's offer annex-m...
      And that's just one example.

I've also read that there can be a small trade off on the downstream.
Hopefully there's a way around that.
Or maybe sky will limit this to the 'pro' pckage as part of profile customisation & what you're seeing is the result of some random early tests?
