      Re: Slow page loading times

if you were using an extention before, it may have been the cause for the change in the BRAS profile (if that is the problem), this may now take upto 3 day to correct itself.

you do not seem to be the only one recently to report this sort of thing over the last few days, there are a few others who would seem to have the same problems and as yet i have not seen any definative answers for why it happened (i also have not seen any update posts about the speed ?)
not sure any of that helps you in truth.

have a look around the forums (look at posts by Isitme)he has posted a link and the details for how to check your profile

      Re: Slow page loading times

Thanks for the help - I had been using an extension until it was accidentally cut when doing some gardening, so I had to move the router to the other end of the house and plug it straight into the master socket. Hopefully that's what's causing this by messing with the profile. Although that was about a week ago now...

I'll check out my profile and post updates over the next couple days.

      Cheers again.

      UPDATE :

Just ran the BTspeedtest. The results are:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:
IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
      DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 3584 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 115 kbps
Obviously something's seriously up there. Suppose I'll have to contact CS then.

So it's a widespread thing? And what's the significance of 99.199.94?

This is your problem. This piece from Kitz explains it much better than I can.
      ::. Kitz - bRAS + IP Profile .::

You will have to phone Sky, hope that you get someone who understands Connect and ask them to get BT to investigate. There must have been a very large rise in your line noise to cause your profile to set itself so low. It is supposed to recover automatically, but this is obviously not happening in your case.

      Re: Slow page loading times

GunForHire - not sure this will work (it has worked for others but not sure yours is the same problem), introduce some noise to your line, to do this take the filter off another phone socket (if you have other sockets with filters) or put your sky box plugged in firsy then your filter, the point is to resync your router with eaxtra noise, leave for about half ann hour, then put all back properly and reboot again to see if your profile has been kicked back to normal.

again not sure if this is right for your problem, but would not hurt to try

P.S sky work over the weekends so you could call today if the above does nothing

      Back again...

So just before I was going to ring Sky, I ran the BT SpeedTest again to make sure the IP profile was still at 135kbs before I called. The IP profile had actually adjusted upwards to 2500kbs which was a bit more like it, and continued to go up to 3500kbs were it settled over the next few days.

Just this afternoon though, it's gone **** up again and dropped back down to 135kbs, despite nothing being done to the setup since it sorted itself. Can't be arsed dealing with this **** either, considering I'm right in the middle of my exams for university. Bloody Sky/BT/whoever's to blame. Going to ring them tomorrow and see if I can get something done about this.

      Re: Slow page loading times

Something somewhere is causing a serious noise problem on your connection. To rule out your internal wiring completely, plug in to the Test socket which is behind the Master socket faceplate. If you do have an internal problem, your stats will show a rise in the noise margin. The main problem seems to be that the noise is occurring in high spikes over a short period. This makes it difficult to trace any faults on the line.
