      Re: Slow page loading times

Same here, getting intermittent connection for the last couple of weeks, frequent router drops, pages taking ages to display and only being able to ping one of the two DNS servers.

Ive been on the phone to Sky "technical" support who seem to have a script to follow thats hell bent on blaming everything including the kitchen sink before admitting they have an issue! I now also have a tier 3 callback in 3-5 working days

      Re: Slow page loading times

Only been active on Sky for a few days.

When it works, speed it good. But I'm getting constant slow downs and then the service just stops. Still stay sync'd with the Exchange but web pages slow down to eventually they time out, can't even resolve IP addresses.

Last 'event' happened approx 10:20pm this evening, only just coming back to some sort of life at 10:30pm. Happened in the afternoon also.

      Exchange: Calne
      IP Address: 90.207.x.x

Never had a problem before with previous ISPs. Always had a good solid connection before.

Going to extract my user info and try my own trusty router.

      This is just pants!

      Re: Slow page loading times

      Quick update.

After a few e-mails back and forth with Sky Tech Support. (slow responses but good answers), they've set my profile to 2Mb which I'm happy with. (I live a long way from the exchange).

Hasn't really solved the issues, connection would seem ok but seems to take an age loading the web page, but torrents seemed quite quick. Just tried having a quick battle with BF2142 and it was unplayable or just keep getting kicked.

So, I put my old trusty BT 1800HG router back in place......

... everything seems different! Pages are prompt in appearing again, I could play on-line again and things seem pretty good.

Maybe I've got a dodgy router, maybe the netgears are picky with long line lengths, I dunno. But it would appear I've got a service I'm happy paying for again.

In a way, I applaud Sky for supplying routers which are locked, encrypted and pre-setup; it helps numpties get on-line quickly and securely, but I work in IT, I know what I'm doing and I trust my equipment. So, please give me that choice!

      Re: Slow page loading times

Migrated to Sky on Thursday and have been suffering the same as most in this thread with very slow page load times - changed the DNS settings on my PC to OpenDNS but made no difference. Speedtests and download speeds all showed circa 8MB so was puzzled by what it might be.

As a last resort I changed from my Sky Belkin router back to my old Netgear one (everything else left exactly the same but I changed my client DNS back to automatic again) and the problem has gone away. Pages load instantly like they did with my previous ISP - might just be a flash in the pan but, in the meantime, just thought I would post this in case it helped anyone else suffering the same problems.

      Re: Slow page loading times

What I said about my old router. Ignore it. Still getting problems!

      Pile of Pants.

Router reboot usually gets things going again, but then a whole load of stuff can't be reached for a while. MSN can't reconnect.

      Damn annoying.

      Hi there.

Were you Pingable in your netgear sky router ? If you are not pingable (if you have not unchecked the box in the router settings) then win xp cannot do automatic MTU adjustment and this will result in general slowness at times.

Put your sky router on and uncheck the box and 'respond to pings' you may decide then to put the belkin on Ebay !

      Re: Slow page loading times

It's the server end that needs to accept ICMP packets for path MTU discovery, not the client end.
