The .com address is perfectly valid so you won't get an error message. The trouble is that it isn't owned by the publishers of the newspaper but (I'm guessing here) by a company that buys up unused/unregistered domains, offers them for sale and in the meantime puts them to work by offering to host ads from 3rd parties etc. Though morally suspect and potentially guilty of what is known as cybersquatting, there's nothing illegal in that though often the owners aren't too bothered what sort of content gets pushed so are complicit in some very dodgy if not illegal practices. The publishers of the Hartlepool Mail have opened themselves up to this problem by not registering the .com address at the same time as the .co.uk, saving themselves about 10 a year but risking a fair bit of brand damage and lost revenue.

Re: Is the Sky DSN servers to blame?

      Sorry.

Lots of sites I go to have the .com or .co.uk domains registered but the other isn't.
      eg
      Skyuser.com
      redirects to:
      American Messaging

      and Skyuser.net
gives a message that the domain has expired so goes to an advert asking you to register the domain.

Either of these could easily be used by a spam company but I don't think this site's traffic would warrant it.
