Oh well, nothing changed so I guess they didn't do anything. Logged into 'My Sky' and noticed under 'contact us', there's a phone number for Sky Pro. Just wondering if anyone here has heard of managing to get their 'we do give a hoot' service, for free?.

Phoned again today and dropped on someone who could do something themselves. He played about with the settings, and the stats showing currently are....

Said he would monitor it, but that no immediate errors were showing, and would give me a call back tomorrow in any case.

10.6Mbps would be considered the norm for a 38.5db line.

Considering you had that 2 weeks of high margin + the chap at sky reporting no errors at 10.6Mbps / 6db, hopefully now the mystery noise fluctuation issue has passed.
      Bizarre as it was.

Personally, i do think that sky's DLM software could do an even better job of maximising the lines' potential.
Especially on the upstream & possibly with the latency too - important if you're a gamer.
I'd understand a reluctance on your part to play with things any further after so much hassle, however if it were me i wouldn't be allowing tomorrow's phone call to end until i was assured that DLM line training had been set in motion & that i'd be waking up the next day to find a resync had occurred at around 3am.

Noticed now it has dropped to just slightly below 4db, (in the hours since darkness). As posted before, it only dropped a little below 6db, even during the night. I don't know if it being capped then at 8.1 would have added more stability with the noise margin (?), but to be honest right now if I could end up holding onto the current sync, I'd be quite happy.

      Down to 4db already?

Presumably you / we (forum) have already explored the possibility of the dreaded REIN?

I wouldn't know where to start to be honest, other than we don't have anything different switched on in the house than my earlier/better reported findings.

      So a quick recap:

Having previously experienced bizarre noise margin fluctuations, recently whilst still sync'd at the same capped 8191Mbps you had a rock-solid 6db noise margin for 2 weeks constant.

Then after rebooting the router, you had a noise margin of 11.7db.
All with the same 38.5db attenuation.

So with that, sky pop you on 10.6Mbps at 6db margin & no errors are showing.
But now 4 hours later (after dark) the margin is at 4db.

      Aaarrrgggghhhh!

REIN can be caused by many things along the path that the line takes.
Did the period of stable margin correspond to a nearby business etc shutting down for the restive season?

That's pretty much it in a nutshell, though it was only after I'd noticed the snr had gone up to around 6db, that I did a 24 & 72hr monitor of the stats and found them rock solid at that time. The connection had been up for about 645hrs I think, before I did the routerstats test.

This is pretty much a residential area.

Don't think the connection is going to last the night.......its now down to 0.4db . I'm guessing that at a cap 8.1 down, it would be same as of old, at about 3db, so looks like things have returned to their shoddy self.

Re: After the thunder & lightning today :(

Well after 96hrs (since the speed was altered), despite dropping very low, there has been no disconnection. I haven't done a full monitor of the stats, but it seems that once it bottomed out, it also stabilised, albeit with that very low snr. I've been asking around for an AM radio off anyone I know (no luck so far) to test for any in house rein issues, but could that be something constantly holding it so low anyway?.
