Post Extremely slow upload speeds and unreliable connection

      Good afternoon,
I recently noticed slow upload speeds over Ethernet and unreliable connections between my PS3 & Router which is approximately 6M Away from the console. My router is a Sagem F@st 2504 (We tried enquiring about slow speeds over the phone, but apparently everything was "Fine")

My maximum recorded upload speed is 142Kb/s & upload speed is 1.5MB/s

We first got our router back in roughly '08, so I don't know if it is a problem with the router or whatelse.

      Thanks in advance.

      Here is my speedtest results

Re: Extremely slow upload speeds and unreliable connection

Unfortunately a speed test dosen't show much about your connection other
than it isn't working very well. There are many things that can cause slow speed,
from wireless issues to poor internal wiring to a fault on the line itself.
Probably a good start would be to plug the router into the test socket behind the
faceplate of your main master socket, then log into your router menu and post a
copy of the status page which should show line connection speeds, line attenuation
etc etc. that will give us a better idea of what is going on.

Re: Extremely slow upload speeds and unreliable connection

Theres alot of stuff surrounding the socket itself, so it may be a while before I get to test it through the test socket.

Note: All my LED's Are Green

Re: Extremely slow upload speeds and unreliable connection

Green LED's again just means it's got a connection, it says nothing about the state of the connection. A poor line or bad internal wiring will kill the speed.
Also try doing a speed test plugged into router with a cable rather than wireless to rule out wireless issues.

I always run it through a Cat5E Ethernet Cable on a Gigabit Internet Card capable of handling ASDL

Your connection stats are fine. I don't think at this stage test socket stats will reveal much. Are your noise margins stable? Although not desperately low, your upstream has dropped over 1db since your last resync. If either of your noise margins drop too low then this will hit your throughput due to connection errors snowballing.

But such a dramatic loss of speed (19,000 sync but only 1,500 throughput) doesn't sound to me like a connection problem per se. If your connection errors were that bad I think you'd be seeing frequent disconnections too.

One consideration is an exchange congestion/fault. If you set up a BQM this may give some indication of issues such as latency and packet loss which can then be further investigated.

Other than that, poor throughput is most often a wireless issue (not in your case), a duff speedtester (you didn't say which one you used), a LAN issue (e.g. a hardware fault or configuration issue) or simply an overloaded connection i.e. someone else on your LAN (or possibly malware) is hosing your connection.

To rule out malware, if you are using Windows, Start your PC in Safe Mode with Networking and run a speed test here - Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester

Is your speed low on more than one device?

Re: Extremely slow upload speeds and unreliable connection

My frequent disconnections only occur on my PS3 & Xperia Z, I'm going to take a look at my noise margin a bit more, I have some logs taken 5 Years ago. So that may give me a view of what's going on

@Isitme Yes, it is usually on more than one device, all of which run an antivirus. I'll try running Windows in safe mode to see what the result is, Thanks.

      **Update**

Alright, I booted two different machines in Safe Mode, One running windows 7 and one running windows 8.1. Speeds stay roughly the same as always, except windows 8.1 being faster by 250KBPS (Probably the new optimization)

The DLM settings have changed so much over that period that it will not tell you much.

Is the PS connected by ethernet? The phone will be so leave it out of the equation for the moment as it may be the wireless connection that is dodgy. Changing the channel could help that.
