      Sr101 firmware

Hi I'm sorry for this thread as it must be posted a lot, however please believe me that I have searched hi and low for the answer.

Basically my my new sky hub SR101, is a bit crap. We've experienced nothing but slow internet since "upgrading". Is there a firmware upgrade available, the firmware currently installed is:

      Firmware Version 1.15n.3591.R

I've read reports that the SR101 is known to be problematic. Can anyone clarify this?

Thanks, any advice in General is appreciated.

      Re: Sr101 firmware

The firmware you have was pushed out a couple of months ago. You're the first one to claim it has slowed things down.

I suspect that there might be something else causing you a problem.

Could I ask you to post you router connection stats please?

How To Get Your Sky Hub SR101 Router Statistics

Also could I ask you to do the following as well:

      • Perform a 'quiet line test'
      • Describe how your router is connected to the telephone line (i.e. microfilters, filtered faceplate, long ADSL lead, on an extension lead) & if the are any extensions in use
      • Take a look at the wiring from your master socket to where it leaves your home

      Quiet Line Test
To do this you need to use a corded telephone, plugged into the Master socket. Dial '1' and listen for any noise. A faint hiss in the background is fine. If you hear the faint noise of a fax machine, then this could indicate that you may benefit from better filters.

What you definitely should not hear is any crackling or loud hiss. Crackling indicates a possible broken line and can be common at this time of year - overhead lines being knocked by growing trees.

      Microfilters
These can and do deteriorate with with time. When did you last replace them? From what I have learned from the forums they tend to last around 2 years. Filtered faceplates last longer.

Extension leads can get pulled if they aren't kept clear of feet, etc. Do double check them.

Have you connected something new? Some Sky STBs have been known to cause problems. It might be a good idea to connect an additinal microfilter specifically for a Sky STB to see if this helps.

      Looking at your line
Check to see if you have any BT Junction boxes or other joints. Take a look if you are able to to ensure that there has been no damage to the wiring and connections in the box/es and that the joints are in good condition too.

If you are unsure, please post some pictures.

If any of these things are causing a problem, then they can all be resolved. Sky's DLM software should kick in after a while and get it all back to how you had it before.

      Hello again Mickc79,

On the face of it your stats look to be fine for your Line Attenuation.

Could I ask you what makes you think that your connection has slowed down please?

You have a new router and now the connection seems slow. However, your stats show a good, fast connection.

      Are you connecting over wifi?

Yeah... to be honest it's kinda stop and start. We often buy movies from sky store but recently it takes an age before we can start watching. Also, overnight I stream audio (white noise) from my phone to my wifi speaker and recently it's been cutting in and out something terrible, sometimes just cutting off all together. The thing with that is, it's all internal. For the audio streaming I'm not accessing the internet. And this has all started happening just in the past month or two.

If it coincided with a change of router then it's probably because you've probably changed to using a busy wi-fi channel. If not then it is some other device of yours (what is the phone broadcasting on? do you have any wireless devices like baby monitors?) or a neighbour is swamping your signals.

Wi-fi is great when it works but a pain when it doesn't. To work well you need a strong signal and a channel that isn't being used for something else.

You may be able to improve things by choosing a different wi-fi channel - one that isn't being used by a neighbour or some other device you have. There are various free utilities you can use (Windows or Android or IOS) to see what channels are in use/busiest. Choose the least busy. Better still, go wired or use powerline ethernet adapters.

      Re: Sr101 firmware

thanks for all the advice on this forum. Things got really, really bad today. could hardly connect to the router at all and if i got conected it didn't last long.

I plugged my old SAGEM back in and hey presto.... everything is flying again. I think my SR101 must have been faulty from the start and today it died.
