was definatly tier 3, or someone high up, he knew exactly what he was talking about, and when i asked technical questions he was able to give proper answers. they must know me now
also managed to write down the number, and phoned it back, got through to easynet.

also had a call back today from tier 1 at about 1:30, (yes another call back!!)
that was just to checkup on an email i had sent previously and they phoned to check i was satisfied with the response.

connection still down. hopefully sorted before the weekend.

      connection working again.

      Code:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7711 kbps 765 kbps
Line Attenuation 35.5 db 20.2 db
Noise Margin 7.0 db 8.0 db
should be getting another 2mb but cant complain i guess. since my noise margin has now decreased a bit.
but i could sync higher when i was on adsl.

With anything other than a low attenuation low noise line the router will always sync on power up at 6.9db unless Sky have capped your line.

As the router syncs it enters into a dialogue with the exchange equipment, determines line attenuation, current snr and frequency bandwidth available. It then should finally sync at the highest connection speed it can with a noise margin of 6.9 or greater.

With an attenuation of 35.5 and a "normal" line you should get a connection speed of ~14000 (my attenuation is 38.5 and I connect at ~13000).

If I recall correctly ADSL2+ is more tolerant of noise over long distances (high attenuation) but ADSL more tolerant over short. This could be why you got a better sync with ADSL?

there is a tree branch outside which is pushing on the drop wire coming into the house and the telegraph pole is a now at an angle. could that have something to do with it?

you must have a very good line to connect at that speed. before all my problems i was connected at a constant 10mb with 7db noise margin. so whatever has been done to fix my problem has added a bit of noise to the line. doubt theres much i can do at my end, already got a filtered faceplate and its in the master socket.
i guess trying in the test socket again wont do any harm.

I'd say you need to call BT and complain about a noisy voice line. Tell them about the branch and that you suspect that's the problem.

Mind you, if it's your branch then they might ask you to pay for the work
