Question Kettering Exchange, Mac Code & BT

      Hi

I'm seriously considering switching to Sky Broadband and they have advised me that CONNECT is the only option available to me at the moment.

Im on BT BROADBAND (2 meg) and i recently spoke to their customer services and asked them if i needed a MAC code and they advised me 'NO'
Was i talking to the call centre muppet or is this true or will SKY request one when i call ??

Is anyone else on the Kettering Exchange (emktter) ?? And if so had you had a positive experience?

Can i assume that because i can only get Connect that the changeover would be more hassle free than going to Mid, Max etc... ??

      Thanks

As I understand it, Sky Connect is BT Broadband rebadged so I wonder if you would gain anything particularly as you have to pay a 40 connection charge to Sky. I,ve decided to wait until my exchange is unbundled next year before considering the switch.

How do i find out when my exchange will be unbundled ???

If it was 8 or 9 months away it would make financial sense to switch as the 40 would pay for itself within 3 months

When I moved from BT to Sky I requested a Mac code and then gave it to Sky, I think the Sky lady actually asked if I had one.

If you are going to join on 'Connect' you will need a Mac code if you are already have ADSL (BT Ipstream), as you will be migrating your connection. Most likely all that would happen if you tried to sign up without one is the migration would fail and a hold would be put on your number, I believe you would have to wait for 10 days before you could try again? Worse case senario is that BT could put a cease and provide on your number, unlikely but you never know with BT. The only time you dont need a mac code is when moving form a LLU connection, tho maybe Ofcom can hurry up and get BT to sort that out!

........ umm maybe NewreadeR should charge Sky for all the help this forum does for them to correct their CS!
I have sold my sold soul and joined SkyBroadband
