      3dB noise margin change.

      Hi,

Since joining Sky BB, I have not had any problems with my connection dropping and the only time I lose connection ever is when I reboot my router, which is rare. Up until the last few days I have logged thousands of happy hours being connected with no drops whatsoever.

I have noticed though, that in the last few days between 2am and 3am that my connection is being reset just once each day at that kind of time and my SR101 now shows a 3dB noise margin when before it was always around 7dB.

My line is still as reliable as ever with no drops on 3dB but the 2am(ish) disconnection still seems to be happening.

The new 3dB noise margin has only bought me a negligible improvement in speed and I am fearful of how reliable my connection might be on 3dB in the future.

      So..

1 - Could this be some sort of process going on that will eventually stop? There is often gaming going on this late and we don't like the possibility of being booted off mid game?

2 - I was very happy with what I had and would ideally like it back, is this possible through contacting sky? I am a little fearful of it not being as reliable in the future.

      Many thanks.

      H

Your line is being retrained by the DLM. It will only last a few days and if your line is not good enough to sustain 3 db, it will go back up to 6db. DLM not only adjusts the noise margin but can also adjust other settings on your line, such a the power output, so even if it looks like you are no better off, you may be when it finishes.

The last time DLM trained my line, it dropped my pings to most uk addresses from a general 23ms to 15ms.
The download speed increased as well but the 'target' noise margin of 6db didn't change.

      I like DLM,
