Best modem to use alongside an Asus RT-N66U with Sky LLU

Basically as the title says, I would prefer using my RT-N66U as it tops the SR102 in lots of different ways but I was wondering which modem would go best with my N66U, my line setting (according to the SR102) says MER/PPPoA so my line supports both modes.

I've already tried just setting my RT-N66U in a DMZ zone of the SR102 box which works fine to give me internet access but it puts me in a Double NAT zone and the SR102 is incredibly sh*t at port forwarding

      Any help would be appreciated

Strange. I tried several times and several different ports and I couldn't get any of them to forward properly :S

That's the same guide I used, however some ports don't seem to forward correctly :\

If it's any help my router is a, quite old now, asus rt-n16 and I have it running on tomatousb.

It all seems to work flawlessly. I have had to reboot my sr-101 umpteen times because it dropped the BB, I have never had to mess with the rt-n16 at all.

It is very simple to port forward using the tomatousb firmware.

I done a factory reset on my N66U and it seems to allow forwarding of more ports now so that's a bonus. Only thing I can't get to work now is stream my game but I think that's software rather than firewall issues. Cheers jrfer

In my experience, you will have less trouble the less advanced/capable the modem is. If you use a "dumb" modem (that can only do bridge mode) like the TP-Link TD-8610, most routers seem to play well with the modem and just work. Another good candidate is the D-Link DSL-320 if you set it to bridge mode and turn off DHCP. I am sure the TP-Link is now discontinued but can be found on eBay.

Re: Best modem to use alongside an Asus RT-N66U with Sky LLU

      Guys,

Sorry to jump on your conversation..

I've finally made the jump to Sky Fibre, but currently have an Asus RT-N66u, I've read so many posts re. using the HG612 and have now seen your post re DMZ, what's really best and the easiest as I need to keep the Asus RT-n66u given the USB capabilities and don't want to lose this by moving to the SR102 Hub :-(

      Thanx !!!
