      Broadband Connection keeps getting dropped

      Hi,

I am currently experiencing some problems with my Sky Broadband Connection, which keeps getting randomly dropped. It will be working fine and then will suddenly drop the broadband connection, the only way I know this has happened is that I will suddenly not be able to load any web pages on any of my connected devices. I then go onto the router status page and discover that it is not longer connected, although it is still showing the Downstream and Upstream speeds.

My current statistics from my Sagemcom F@ST2504n router are as follows:

      Broadband Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4162 kbps 1145 kbps
Line Attenuation 49.0 dB 29.6 dB
Noise Margin 5.9 dB 7.9 dB

Any advice regarding the above would be much appreciated!

      Thanks,
      James.

Re: Broadband Connection keeps getting dropped

It would have been useful if you had posted the full stats including the uptimes. These could show if the problem was the internet, wireless or LAN connection or if the router was rebooting itself.

Is the router shown in your Profile the one you are actually using?

Is every thing you have connected to the phone circuit running through a filter?

Have you tried running the router in the Test socket, if you have one? That could show if your internal wiring is causing interference. How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket

Is there excessive noise on your line? Test by dialling one digit and listening, there should be no noise except maybe a slight hiss. You should use a corded phone for this as many cordless phones have noise cancelling functions and other create their own noise.

Re: Broadband Connection keeps getting dropped

      Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry about that, please see below for my full statistics. The Broadband connection itself seems to be dropping out on regular basis. I rebooted the router lat night, that is why it has only been up for 16 hours in total:

      System Up Time: 16:03:57
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 1191 1173 0 746 298 0:01:22
      LAN Up 194138 71502 0 1617 1052 16:03:57
      WLAN Up 611755 588544 0 5990 4760 16:03:33
      Broadband Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4931 kbps 1160 kbps
Line Attenuation 48.5 dB 29.8 dB
Noise Margin 1.9 dB 7.3 dB

I can confirm that the router in my profile is the one that I am using.

I've only got the router and a phone connected to the phone circuit and both are running through the filters that were supplied by Sky when we first signed up to their Broadband package.

I will give the Test Socket a go and see if that makes any difference.

      Thanks,
      James.

Your noise margin is dropping a lot. Could be noise on the line causing interference.
