      O2 broadband moved to Sky - no outbound emails

      Hi
      I use an offline email client. Under O2 I had to use relay.o2broadband.co.uk as the SMTP server for non O2 accounts. Now I am moved to Sky the smtp will not work. I cannot find an smtp server name that works and I have tried smtp.tool.sky.com and mail.skyusermail.com. IS there anyway to send non sky a/c emails though sky?
      When I try to send with mail.skyusemail.com as the smtp server I get 553 We do not relay without RFC2554 authentication.'.

      I have not logged into sky, I dont have a sky account to my knowledge.

      If someone knows the answer could they please post detailed step by step response please.

      [QUOTE=Isitme;426927]

      I think perhaps you have not understood. I do not want to use web based mail. I want to use offline email clients like Eudora and Outlook Express etc.

      To do that I need for each account to specify an SMTP server or to direct all accounts to use one smtp relay personality (Eudora)
      If I take an account like cg100@uk2.net then the normal smtp would be smtp.uk2.net and under O2 broadband we would use relay.o2broadband.co.uk. If I change back to smtp.uk2.net it does not work.

      Sorry I am using an offline email client like Outlook and Eudora. What I think you have suggested is to include addresses for online web mail. I have now resolved the issue thank you.

      It seems SKY allows relaying although they never told me this themselves. So all I had to do was revert to the original smtp server for the email account and turn off relay personality ( a Eudora feature). So for example I have an account at Easynet. So my smtp server would now be smtp.easynet.co.uk.

      relay.o2broadband.co.uk still seems to work with me for my non-Sky email (though I normally use the SMTP server linked to my 1&1 hosted email). How much longer the O2 servers will continue to work of course is an unknown.

      I guess that is lucky then. I guess you have actually sent an email using the o2 relay and I presume you are not using Relay personality. As you say, it is bound to change sooner or later, and the relay did not work for me when I was moved over.

      Thanks for this cgoldman. For the record, and in case this helps anyone else....

      At your suggestion, I changed relay.o2broadband.co.uk in my Outlook 2003 settings (Outgoing Server) for my 3 email addresses to smtp.gmail.com, smtp.googlemail.com and smtp.virgin.net. Then for the first two addresses, under More Settings..., Advanced tab, I enabled SSLs for POP3 and SMTP (ports 995 and 465) and for the virgin.net cleared the SSL boxes and used ports 110 and 25.
      This seems to have done the trick.

      Thanks again.
