      Upstream noise is it ok?

      Hi,

I noticed my Upstream noise is 0.0 dB is that ok?

      These are all my stats

      Downstream
      Connection Speed: 10520 kbps
      Line Attenuation: 39.5 dB
      Noise Margin: 6.3 dB

      Upstream
      Connection Speed: 906 kbps
      Line Attenuation: 24.1 dB
      Noise Margin: 0.0 dB

      Notes
Had BTO out yesterday (Wednesday 11/12/2013) due to my connection keep dropping out, anyway the BTO person, fitted an new BT master socket with the built in filter plug, which is used for Fibre he said.

Before the fault, my Downstream was 11xxx kbps and Upstream was 1106 kbps.
Downstream noise was around 6 and I have an Upstream noise not sure what.

They have restarted the DLM yesterday as well, due to my downstream noise being 3.6 dB

      Re: Upstream noise

Just re-sync and Upstream speed is now 876 kbps with 0.0 dB as Noise Margin.
It use to be 1106 kbps before the problem on the 5th and I use to have more noise.

      Re: Upstream noise

If the router is reporting correctly then it is a bad thing. It means there is no 'come and go' and any noise present on the line will overcome the broadband signal, leading to errors. Try resetting the router by pressing and holding the reset button on the rear. See if that helps.

      Re: Upstream noise

I will do a reset tomorrow and report back, also DLM training is still running.
I know when I had the problem my upstream was going between 0.0 dB and 102.8 dB

I was wondering if it correct at 0.0 dB, would it mean my upstream speed will continue to drop?
Asa being a gamer upstream is important.

At the moment, I am running on my Virgin Media connection, but that going next year and Sky Fibre is meant to be replacing it.

      Re: Upstream noise

Just did a factory reset via the Sky Hub settings, which fixed the problem, now 7.7 when it get the speeds in.
      But now it won't connect.

All I did was click erase in the Sky Hub Backup Settings page
Called Sky and they need me to plug into the test socket, so I need to call them back tomorrow as can't get to the socket atm.

      Re: Upstream noise

      Here an update.
I checked my laptop, to see what the stats was and again the Noise margin for Upstream was 0.0
So on the off chance I called the phone line and my Upstream noise came alive to 15.15 dB with a speed of around 782 kbps

So I rebooted Sky Hub and the stats was 17.17 dB for upstream.

So I then plugged into the test socket, to get the same.
I then called Sky to reset my DLM training, which they did and now my stats are as followed

      Downstream
      Connection Speed: 11365 kbps
      Line Attenuation: 39.0 dB
      Noise Margin: 6.1 dB

      Upstream
      Connection Speed: 1116 kbps
      Line Attenuation: 23.9 dB
      Noise Margin: 9.9 dB

Hopefully it will stay fixed now, but won't count my chickens to early.

      Re: Upstream noise

It dropped again about an 1hr and half after they reset me, so I called them and now they saying my line can't support 11xxx kbps, but it was.

It all started on the 5th December and still on going as I see it.
They say if it drops again they send another engineer out, which I don't really see the point, as I had one here Wednesday, but hay ho.

      Current stats

      Downstream
      Connection Speed: 10743 kbps
      Line Attenuation: 39.5 dB
      Noise Margin: 6.9 dB

      Upstream
      Connection Speed: 1007 kbps
      Line Attenuation: 24.1 dB
      Noise Margin: 1.1 dB

I am already in the test socket.

That seems to indicate you have a high resistance fault on your line, ie, a joint not making proper contact or a break in the wire. When the engineer arrives tell him about this, that you seem to have an HR fault and he should get an idea what is wrong.

      Upstream noise

      Hi,

It dropped again on the 14th so called up and they gave me 3 options

      1. Change the profile - they already done this, in the past call
      2. Send me a new hub
      3. Send out an engineer.

They explained if BTO found it to be the router, would not be good.

So I went with option 2 the new Sky Hub, which I got yesterday 17th (Tuesday).
It is still running the DLM training and seems to be resetting the dB.

So I haven't touched it and am only monitoring it at this time.
      Regards,
      CBG (Garry)
