      • Could you post your new stats please?
      • Also it is worth noting that DLM will most likely kick in at some stage soon and improve the connection speed further still.

Posting your new stats helps others to see where things should have always been should they have a similar issue and it helps us to check that the upload speed hasn't been forgotten.

The changes to the DLM software could mean that your speed may actually go above 13,000kbps too.

      Hi Scubbie,

      Sure no probs.

The simple reason for the two differing router images is that we fitted our new SR101 today, once we knew the problem had been resolved. I bought the SR101 myself
to try just in case it was the router that was causing our problems, however it didn't make any difference at all. So I refitted the Sagem in the hope that
the ongoing saga would be resolved. Which it now is ... Yippeeeee

Interesting. That Noise margin is quite low.

Personally I would use the SR101 since you have the choice. This is based upon the knowledge that the SR101 has better WiFi and that the router has some coding which benefits the DLM process. This in turn can help you to get a faster connection.

Re: Our 4 year+ Phone/BB issue has now taken a turn for the worse :(

I thought that too Scubbie however SKY CST did mention they don't like it above 7db too, so it must be a tight margin? We've had
all sorts of weather today and I've not seen it once go below 4.8db which I guess for us is not too bad. Previously we could still actually hold 10Mbps Downstream
at 2.8db. However below 2.2db etc I'd start to notice issues. Mind due... That's with two wires touching in the cabinet and a rusted away block terminal too

I've adjusted the MTU size to 1492 bytes today following some ping testing as this seems to be the optimal packet size.

Re: Our 4 year+ Phone/BB issue has now taken a turn for the worse :(

7dB used to be the target, but with the new DLM software the noise margin can now drop to 3dB if the line is good.

If the line is good enough it'll stay there, but in most cases it'll rise to around 6dB.

Other changes include G.INP and a few other new tricks.

Re: Our 4 year+ Phone/BB issue has now taken a turn for the worse :(

The engineer did say our line tested very good once the faults were sorted out, so I just hope that the noise margins will stay within tolerance now. All seems well at the mo

Regarding the router mentioned in the last post.. Yes I'll be sticking with the SR. It's actually the SR101-z which I believe is the very latest one?

Come-on fill me in... What are these new tricks you speak of. Are these DLM software tricks or things I can carry out at my end to secure an
      even more stable connection?

      Thank you

Re: Our 4 year+ Phone/BB issue has now taken a turn for the worse :(

The most recent Sky routers are (newest 1st):

      • Sky Hub SR102
      • Sky Hub SR101
      • Sagem @FAST 2504N

Spec wise they are almost identical. The SR101 is white and was the first router made in-house by Sky. The SR102 is black and now has a VDSL Modem (which works on ADSL too) instead of an ADSL Modem. From my understanding there is no other difference between the SR101 and SR102 from a user perspective. The SR102 is currently being sent to a select number of new Sky customers and hasn't been officially launched just yet.

All three of these routers have modules within the firmware which support the new features, such as G.INP, that are designed to improve your ADSL2+ connection. Please search this forum for the term 'G.INP' for more information on this topic. These also discuss some of the new tricks too.

Essentially they improve the connection speed without being detrimental to the stability of the connection. On the whole connection speeds have also risen since they were introduced. This isn't just down to Sky lifting the 20mb cap which it used to have either.

      Thanks for that info scubbie.

Guess what? Woke up at 3am so as you do I thought I'd check on the router stats as it was lashing down in the night.

The router has not rebooted but the DL rate had dropped by a few bps and the DL noise margin was at 2.8db its now back to 4db.

Hope I've not got too excited too soon

A drop in the Noise Margin is not unusual. It does fluctuate all the time and is affected by the position of the sun as well.

Trying installing Router Stats Lite to see if there is an issue or not:

Re: Our 4 year+ Phone/BB issue has now taken a turn for the worse :(

      Understood Scubbie thanks.

At least the noise margin has now got nowhere near the swing it had previously. It could be that DLM is running too and making it's mind up

Got router stats running now, and so far (only 32 minutes) I've got two flat lines for connection speeds and noise margin is virtually flat as a pancake too at 4.2db
