    ADSL newbie - attenuation, noise and speed help on Sky BB

    This is a discussion on ADSL newbie - attenuation, noise and speed help on Sky BB within the Sky Broadband help forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; Would that be the "stabilisation" he referred to on the call? He just asked me to load a few webpages, ...

      Would that be the "stabilisation" he referred to on the call? He just asked me to load a few webpages, and I said it was ok, and he just said "Ok I'll apply the stabilisation to the line now" I think.

      Regardless, I'll be happy with 19mb to be honest. It's a world away from 100mb Virgin Media I had, but its better than what I did have here at least!

      Stabilisation could just mean that DLM is running on the line, it will not necessarily increase the speed any, as DLM training would. It will reduce the speed to keep it stable if it has any problems.

      DLM should pick this up in due course if he didn't trigger it to start and reprofile the line. It may be a few months.

      From what I have seen myself and from reading reports from other members, the current version does not appear to slow you down significantly first, just increases it a little as required. If the Noise Margin get to 3dB and it struggles, it then slows things down a little to a noise margin in the range of 6dB.

      Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

      It seems I got tweaked about 3am this morning to a slightly higher speed an lower noise margin, so I guess DLM is running:
