      Disconnections

      Hi everyone,

For the last three nights I have been having problems with my connection constantly disconnecting and reconnecting. The strange thing is that it only happens between exactly 9:15 and 1:15 in the evening. The connection is fine at all other times. Looking at the statistics screen on the router admin the router syncs for about 20 seconds then disconnects.

      The stats when connected are:
      Broadband Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7005 kbps 797 kbps
Line Attenuation 46.5 dB 29.0 dB
Noise Margin 6.3 dB 14.14 dB

When it disconnects the stats change to:

      Broadband Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7005 kbps 797 kbps
Line Attenuation 46.5 dB 29.2 dB
Noise Margin -4.-7 dB 14.14 dB

Any advise on what I should do? Should I just call sky?

      Thanks
      Simon

      Re: Disconnections

Before calling Sky, if you have a test socket I would plug your router into it via a microfilter and check if the disconnections still occur. Also while doing this plug a phone into any other telephone sockets around the house just to confirm that they are dead. Is there anything in the house on a timer set to come on at 21:15?

      Re: Disconnections

The disconnections still occur at the test socket and have tried a different microfilter. I also have a second line in the house with a talk talk broadband connection with almost the same stats as the sky connection. Its only the sky connection which is disconnecting. I cant think of anything which is set to come on at 21:15.

I am wary of calling sky because I guess they will reduce the line speed.

      Re: Disconnections

It appears that there is a problem, I would work with Sky to get this resolved even if it means a speed reduction in the short term. The line can always be retrained once the fault has been cleared.
