This is my cabinet, Huawei large?

Now I'm about 800 metres or so away from this and Sky have quoted me a speed of 14.3, sound right?

I've seen a fttc 'find my cabinet' site which showed where this cabinet was. It also said I should get an uplift of just over 5 on my current adsl speed (4.1meg), surely this would put me on about 20 down?

      Cheers in advance

      Andy

Nice one, many thanks for the help. I'll try to insist on a Huawei modem then, hope its OR and not a contractor.

I assume they carry both modems on the van?

      Yes they carry both

when the engineer comes get him to run a line test with his JDSU-HST3000

bear in mind though the modem in that device is the the same chipset as the eci dslam's

I've "lost" 15Mbps according to the BT checker. I'm about 500 meters from the cabinet and the checker used to say 50/11, not it says 35/6. I'm still syncing at 40/10, so as shonk has said the estimates as usually conservative to take in to account likely degradation as the cabinet fills up.

      Well done Sky! Happy customer!!

Well, second sky hub sr101 has been dispatched today even though I already have one. What a waste of money on Sky's part.

Also, one week today till I get my fibre fitted. Bit worried about the min/max fibre estimate of 14.3meg, will be interested to see what it actually syncs at. I was wondering if they are being very conservative in light of the half speed fibre problems and the relevant compensation they had to pay to unhappy customers?

The other thought I had was I wonder if they worked out my estimate based on the following

      current adsl - 4.1meg
uplift from fttc from my cabinet - x5
= theoretical sync of 20.5 meg

expected throughput due to overheads etc - 80-95%

14.3 is 70% exactly (due to extra conservative management of expectations)

I've clearly over thought this due to both excitement and/or hear stroke

      Apologies

      Andy

Easier to use a pedometer and walk from the cabinet to your property as a better indication of speed!

For my part, the uplift checker was not accurate: 2.5Mbps x 11.14 = 28Mbps. I sync at 40!

      Well done Sky! Happy customer!!

Just had a courtesy call from sky ahead of Thursdays install to ensure I'm aware of everything that will happen on the day, to ensure the sky hub has arrived and to see if I had any questions. So kudos to sky for decent customer service.

One thing that's odd, he asked if my sky hub had arrived ( it hasn't). I told him not to worry as I already have the sr101. He said it won't work on fibre as the connections on the back are different. All sounds a bit vague, I pushed him on what was different and he said the fibre sr101 connect to the bt modem not the phone line. I think he's misinformed about the sr101

pmsl - there will be a little confusion if he hasn't properly read the product details.

I can 100% confirm that the SR101 which you have been using on your ADSL connection will work, through the BTO Modem, with SFU or SFUP.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

Openreach contractor just left. Connected without a hitch, sadly not at the 14.3 meg sky estimated but at about 12.5ish see picture. His opening gambit was that they always aim for a minimum of 15 down.

The guy said it was not possible to check the potential speed of my line and when I gently challenged him about it he said some guys carry a plug in device but he doesn't.

On the plus side he was a nice chap, and matched the Huawei dslam with a Huawei modem.

He said give DLM a chance to do its thing over the next few days, but I'm under the impression that the speed u get within the first 15 mins or so is the most your gonna get, if anything DLM will slow it if needed?
