Problems with email on Android phone

      Hi All,

Recently got Sky broadband and have got the email running OK using Thunderbird. However, I have put the same settings into my android phone and it won't send email!! (It'll receive them OK)

      My outgoing settings are:

      Server: smtp.tools.sky.com
      port: 465
      Security: SSL
      Require login: Yes
      Username: ****@sky.com
      Password: Password

...but emails that I send just vanish into the ether!

What am I doing wrong? As I say, Thunderbird works fine with these settings.

Your emails should either be in the 'Sent' folder within Thunder bird or the 'Outbox' if they haven't been sent.

Thunderbird is working OK so the settings are 'valid'. Sent mails do indeed end up in the 'sent' folder.

The problem is with my Android phone. Using the same settings, any emails I send just completely disappear. The receipient doesn't receive them.

Got it. Basically this is one important difference between POP3 and IMAP.

With IMAP any emails shown on one device are automatically shown on another device in their respective folders. If you move an email from one folder to another, it will show in the new folder on any other device too.

With POP3 if you send an email on one device's client (i.e. Thunderbird, Yahoo! Mail), it will only be available to see on that device in that client.

It shouldn't affect the sending of email, though.

Even with the PC (Thunderbird) switched off, the phone is unable to send email via POP3, despite having the correct POP3 settings.

(Receiving of email is OK on both devices.)
