Re: What websites does Sky now block

Sky doesn't generally publish a list of site which they block. There are currently two methods which are used to block sites:

      1. Internet Watch Foundation (IWF)
      2. Court Orders

The IWF blocks sites which contain items such as Child Porn. The do not advertise which sites are on the list or what criteria they use to block the site. The argument being that this way people find it harder to circumvent their process. All the UK ISPs have to include a system designed by and updated by the IWF in their servers to block this content.

The court orders tend to be very specific. One example would be The Pirate Bay. If you try to access TPB using their legitimate web address you can't get to it. However many direct links to the torrent files and the trackers still work. It is also very easy to circumvent the blocks to this site by using proxy servers.

Recently Sky has to add a few more sites to their list.

There are several sites listed as blocked due to court orders in the Our approach to protecting copyright | Sky Help section of Sky's help pages.

Re: What websites does Sky now block

Thanks I'm not really interested in what porn sites they block, its the ones that have been implemented by court orders (as in TPB)
Can they also block proxy websites ?

Re: What websites does Sky now block

Sky will only block sites when ordered to do so by the courts. The exceptions, as mentioned previously, are those which are blocked by the IWF.

Since F.A.S.T. is more interested in directly closing down the torrent sites, it is they who are currently being targeted. Perhaps one day someone will choose to target proxy sites. For now they appear to remain safe.

Re: What websites does Sky now block

I think that there is a rule on the Sky site which prevents discussions on this topic. Whilst on this site there is a similar rule which prevents us from promoting sites such a TPB, when it is relevant to the conversation and support, there isn't too much harm. Just don't post direct links to these sites or their new proxies.

There are a host of proxy websites. Use Google and you will find many listed. "HMA" is a popular one and easy to use. It came 3rd in a Google search with those initials just now.

Re: What websites does Sky now block

I found out a PB Proxy site has been blocked by them in the last few days but TalkTalk and o2 haven't. I tweeted them to ask if the site was blocked by Court Order or are they censoring which sites their customers can access on a whim. Waiting for an answer on Monday and if not received by Monday night I'll phone to see if they CS Reps know. If I get a reply I'll let you know.

Re: What websites does Sky now block

Yeah it's an absolute nightmare. I was looking all over for the web to see news if a Court had ordered the blocking of those sites and can find nothing. It's even odder that TalkTalk and o2 allow access to those sites. I'm furious that Sky seemingly have taken this decision on their own. Surely a Court Order would be imposed all on all ISP's at the same time and there would be some announcement. Sky just bend over straight away at first request and see fit to dictate what sites I can and can't visit. It's even more annoying that the sites they block don't even have a notice like other ISP's do. I thought the site was down for everyone worldwide due to a server error or something for a couple of days and then went ballistic when I realised Sky just decided to censor the internet. It's an absolute disgrace and I won't be giving them my custom unless they have a damn good explanation.
