Ouch! If any lawyers out there are interested, I am sure that Sky would lose a challenge in court.

Whether or not they have ties with the film and TV industry, if they exceed the letter of the law and start blocking other sites without the legal authority they can justly be had for censoring the Internet IMHO.

I appreciate that many people cite copyright issues and loss of earnings for the music industry, but the truth is that we already pay or have paid for the right to watch or listen to much of the content through subscription TV, purchasing video cassettes, LPs, CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs and the good old TV License fee.

      This is simply greed.

If the industry considers that they do not get enough $billions already, then they ought to pay the people who produce the material proper money first.

Legally Sky would need a court order to block access to any site, unless the Government changes the law.

read it online somewhere there going to start blocking all the sites that lead to it.

That is NOT going to happen.
It would mean that the likes of Google would be at risk.

Hmm, it seems more and more sky are starting to work a little against us. I can no longer use sky go as I require a rooted tablet for extra security. sky for no apparent reason other than suspecting I might somehow find a way to circumvent some drm they have implemented, have decided I shouldn't be doing this and must be prevented!. I wouldn't know where to start with circumventing their seem, nor do I care or want to. It's just tv!

Now they are starting to decide which websites we're allowed to access.

UK ISPs Secretly Start Blocking Torrent Site Proxies | TorrentFreak

This is not for any serious or safety reason, but to stop us downloading content, again usually out of date entertainment, we may or may not have a legal right to download. But also sites hosting huge amounts of entirely legal, copyright free, royalty free, and important data media and software. And even if it is a court order that it's imposing it; firstly they are not standing up for our freedoms, and secondly they are starting to go above and beyond what is even asked of them.my days worth sky or virgin etc are numbered. There is plenty of tv on freeview hd, I barely see the point in paying them anything, I only do out of convenience. But everything is being monetized and locked down. Mistrust everywhere. We are branded pirates and thieves rather than people who just fancy watching some light entertainment, even hd is a payed extra. It's all way way out of proportion and already a major censorship and free speech issue.

You already said it, "monetized" or to satisfy the US "monetised" (I don't have any reason to stop them scanning, but if we make it easy for them perhaps they will realise we are no threat!, and stop doing it)
Don't forget Sky is a US company (big grin)

Re: What websites does Sky now block

I started a thread asking a similar question on non-P2P sites, but it appears as it was my first post to have been (hopefully) temporarily lost in moderation.

I can't access the PressTV website and the odd occasion I have before has always been fine. It's there alright and easily sourceable through a proxy, but not through Sky as a regular site. Why, PressTV? Well apart from the fact it's Iranian and unless you have in mind some caricature of a mad mullah Spitting Image type Iranian broadcasting service, plus of course Galloway.

EDIT: Odd. It hadn't worked since yesterday at 6pm. Now I return from being out and it is accessible through my PC whereas previously it was accessible only through my phone or via a proxy.

Re: What websites does Sky now block

Press TV was down for two days (accessible through proxies, smartphone and downforeveryone) then back up yesterday evening, now down again.

Obviously PressTV has had some problems with the broadcasting authorities for showing a short clip of a confession on one of their programmes and for this were heavily fined and when they refused to pay they were removed from almost all Western global satellites but still their online content remained. Is this access issue a blip, or are they now being (intermittently) targeted for their online services by internet providers too?

I wonder whether others can access. I have to say as an alternative news station I prefer RT, but they are interesting sometimes on ME news.
