      Poor connection

      Hello,

We received our router for Sky Max BB on Monday, (after about 5 weeks of waiting!) and have had a lot of connection problems so far that a lot of other forum members seem to have had. Rebooting the router seems to do the trick for me and raise my noise margin, making things more stable (Nm around 7.5), but reducing the sync rate (2200kbps).
Basically what I want to know is am I always going to have this problem, or is it just for adsl2+? I am considering cancelling the contract and signing up for a more basic 8 meg adsl package. Will i have the same poor connection speed with any isp? I am about 2.2km from my exchange as the crow flies, and my telephone line has a lot of noise. I've called BT to see if they can fix my noisy line, so maybe that will fix the broadband too?

If anyone could provide insight into any of the questions above, it would be much appreciated

      Hi Tinners

I would speak to Sky to see if they can twiddle some buttons, other members have reported better results and greater stability after this has been done

what i want to know is if this is just a problem with sky broadband or am I going to have similar poor connections with other ISPs? I have the option of going with NTL as I'm in a cable area.

I had telewest cable for years before I jumped to sky and I had maybe one outage of service a year and never had to reboot my router.
Also you are not dependent on distance from exchange for speed. You get what you pay for. If the prices go down I may go back after my 12 months with Sky, even though I have had few problems I just loved the stability of cable.

Then it's a no-brainer if you can extricate yourself, GO NTL........

Two plus years of what it says on the tin from NTL, no hassle, no outages...No Email Issues, No toytown website...........I'm on it now....... BUT unfortunately they have not and probably will not reach the Costa Geriatrica where I have to spend half my week.........
My Bus speed is 26 mph, what's yours??
