I think I have cracked it

Went live on Sky BB 4 weeks ago and have had disconnection problems ever since...

I am on MAX Package and when I signed up I was told that I would be able to have 4.5 Meg at my house.

To be honest it does connect at 4.5 every time but a couple of times a day it kept hanging and disconnecting - and me - being me needed to sort this.

This is what I did...and I think I have finally cracked it. I have posted in order of what I did after each one seemed to fail to work...

      i) Replaced all filters in house
ii) Wired router into master socket
iii) Got my sky username and password and used another router (it was only every 3 days now I got disconnected)
iv) Ordered a face plate from ADSL Nation (and fitted it all by myself!) (Increased connection by 1.5 meg)
      v) Needed 30 quid so sold my old router and went back to my SKY one
      vi) Connection problems everyday again
vii) At some point I disabled Upnp (to stop my intermittent wireless connections dropping)
viii) Flashed my Sky Router and updated firmware - (and still got intermittent connections)
ix) Started reading the net and found about the MTU setting and TCP Optimizer - and this seems to have made it the stablest its ever been...(1492)
      x) Had connection for 48 hours!
xi) But still not happy I want a connection for a week at least..so
xii) I found the command online for making the router cap your connection - after google and reading other forums I found out that my Line Attenuation and Noise Margins are crap!

And where am I at now...made my router connect to the exchange at 3meg - have the best readings I have had in my Statistics Page...

So...I will update you and let you know how long I stay connected.

In conlclusion though - if this is what the problem was all along - as fun as it has been trying to sort it all out - it seems to me that this is SKYs fault for pushing my line to much - ...

And is it just me who is on MAX who only gets a ****ey unstable connection when its 4.5 meg...and what looks to be a stable 3 meg connection....

      MAX?? MAX MY ****!

Hey stephen, thanks for the detailed post, I'm on max too, i have had drops every day and only every received around a 3mb connection. I finally called tech support last week to request for my speed to be dropped down and it has stayed up for all week, so fingers crossed. I'm not too worried about getting blazing speeds a stable 2mb connection for a tenner a month would be a great start.
