Router Syncing at lower download speed?

      Hi
Dont know if anyone can help, recently my bb speed has dropped considerably, I struggle to stream HD movies. My router stats are
      System Up Time 03:50:06
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 60684 73675 0 939 4605 03:49:26
      LAN 10M/100M 7804 0 0 108 0 03:50:02
      WLAN 11M/54M 99797 85835 0 5252 1562 03:49:56

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2192 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 26.5 db 16.4 db
Noise Margin 8.9 db 17.1 db

Im on the unlimited package and on mysky it has the following info

Line connection testing completed on 02/04/2012, resulting in the following settings:

      Download speed setting
Your connection has been set to a download speed of up to 18.0Mbps .

      Upload speed setting
Your connection has been set to an upload speed of up to 1.3Mbps .

I used to sync at around 7Mbs. Sky have tested the line and say its ok. The router is the Netgear original one.. I have tried changing microfilters, plugged into the test socket, wired/wireless but the results are about the same.

I would be grateful of any help anyone can post.

      Thanks

Can you plug into the test socket using only the ADSL cable/filter supplied by Sky and post your stats please. DLM has probably capped your line so you may see no increase in the speed, but other figures may change.

When the master faceplate is off, please check that any other extensions you have are dead.

Connected into test socket with new sky microfilter. No extensions on the socket just the phone, unplugging didnt make any difference.

      Thanks

Re: Router Syncing at lower download speed?

I think that confirms you have a fault on your line causing a lot of interference. Plug a corded phone into the test socket on its own, no filter or extension. Dial one digit and listen. You should hear nothing except possibly a very faint hiss. Anything else and you can report it to your phone provider as a noisy line. You can also try dialling 17070 and follow the instructions for checking your line. Fixing a poor voice line will nearly always improve the broadband.

Even if your line appears clear as your speed is a long way below what it was set at, you have a very good case for Sky getting it fixed. To make sure nothing underhand is tried, keep a copy of the web page showing your broadband speed in case it is required as proof in the future. The main thing is to keep at them and don't take no for an answer.

Re: Router Syncing at lower download speed?

It is unlikely but a possibility. Do you have another router you could try? It would not need to connect to Sky, just to the exchange so that you can see what speed it is syncing at. If the speed is about the same, that would rule out a faulty router. If it is much higher, then the router is to blame.
