Is it a filtered plate with a phone and ADSL socket? If so you are OK.

In that case you woiuld benefit from a filtered faceplate. At the moment you need filters on all the sockets in use, with a plate you do not need any. You would have to change the linebox to an NTE5a as well, which you can get from RunITDirect.

noticed its gone up to 7 meg today, which is roughly where i was before. Hopefully it will keep increasing, it'll be a bonus if it does.

Re: Started Sky unlimited today, testing period?

Essentially you should look at the Noise Margin now. It is currently high and will drop as the download speed increases.

Sky used to have a fixed target for the Noise Margin of 7dB. Provided that a line can support it, DLM will now continue to increase the download speed and reduce the Noise Margin to a point where the Noise Margin is around 3dB. In practise this may mean that the Noise Margin will be any figure between 3dB and 7dB for most people.

      It doesn't stop there either.

Sometimes when it looks like DLM has finished working on the download speed it then works on the upload speed too.

The upload speed is actually very important. Get the ratio wrong and your Internet access is affected badly. Once your download figure get above around 12mb, the upload should be above 1,000kbps. Although Sky sometimes mentions an upload figure of 1.3mbps, in practise I haven't seen it any higher than 1200kbps on the forum. My own is currently showing as 1179kbps this morning.

very interesting. so when the noise margin decreases significantly from what it is now it'll indicate that the downstream is leveling off at its peak. As for the upstream, i'm already surprised at how high it is lol

Re: Started Sky unlimited today, testing period?

Yep, so the key figure to watch is the noise margin.

It might be that DLM will try 3dB and determine that you are better off with a slightly higher figure.

A few members have shown their figures and this was the case with them.

I think you were probably on G.DMT with Orange, which would account for your low up and down speeds. If you were not, they made a real mess of configuring your line.

I notice your router was rebooted about 24 hours before your stats were taken. It is important that you avoid rebooting and keep the router plugged in and powered up at all times during the training period. If you don't, DLM may think there is a fault on your line and reduce your speed. I would not be surprised if you end up with 18Mb+

18+mb? believe it when i see it lol. i think sky LLU has only recently been added to my local exchange, with adsl2 being there for about a year.

As for rebooting, i havent rebooted it yet, just took it out the box and plugged it in. its on constantly. On that note, i read on sky that it automatically updates over night when its not being used. i noticed my hub doesnt have the latest firmware and didnt update last night. should i wait until after testing period to update it? as i assume it'll have to reboot when updated
